There are a number of very good books on ‘Learning how to Learn.” Let me first say that unfortunately learning how to learn is not generally taught, nor is reading (beyond elementary school) and that we as humans have relatively poor feedback mechanisms to tell how well we are learning, i.e. you don’t know what you don’t know. (see Dunning-Kruger effect) We think we may have learned something well, but we are often mistaken.

So with that, my first recommendation is Barbara Oakley’s book Mind for Numbers is an excellent introduction to the subject. It is somewhat geared to STEM fields in college, but is quite useful in other disciplines and would be useful in high school for all academic subjects. You should also look at Barbara Oakley’s course on Coursera, which is also excellent.

[Secret] - the following are secret german science documents
EM railgun Project:
Leopard 3A1: The 3A will be a new design, the design will be built around increased crew survivability. It will incorporate Explosive reactive armor of German design based off of American versions. The hull will also include a 4th generation composite armor and slat armor as well to protect against missile fire. The 3A will also sport a newer MEXAS shell, which will help with additional protection. The 3A will also sport a new turret design which will target reductions in shot traps made by the barrel, and drivers view sight and will work to digitize tank. Digitalize means that the 3A will use armor mounted camera systems will be sued to drive, the 3A. This will result in the removal of a drivers hatch to view but a hatch to escape the vehicle will remain. The 3A will also be designed to have a lower profile then the 2A7 but will keep the modular system that the current Leopards are designed off of. The Modular system will include a new ammo storage system in which the ammo will be stored in a separate module that will have reinforced steel surrounding it, with an automated door which will shut in the event the ammo module has been penetrated and a hatch will blow above the module where the pressure can vent out to give the crew a better chance of survival. The 3A will also sport a newer engine, which will be designed to support the greater weight of 69 tons, but with a height of 2.5 meters and a length of 10 meters (gun forward) and a with of 4 meters. The 3A will sport a new engine capable of 1600 hp, with a power to weight ration of 25 ps/t and a modern Torsion bar suspension. The Main gun will be equipt to work with a new automated system, and will be a 120 mm smooth bore cannon designed to fire any modern German tank round.
Small Arms Development: Positions of the German small arms project will go to the following, Implementing the HK416 to replace the G36. Developing a new .556 round which will have the stopping power of a .762 but the weight and functionality of a .556. In an effort to standardize German units, the P12 will be made the standard pistol of the German military, with the MP7 as a side arm for tank, aircraft, and none combat personnel.
EADS Barracuda : The future implementation of a german drone program, which will result in a drone that will have the ability to carry weapons systems, advanced surveillance systems, and act as a medical evacuation alternative for combat zones that are too active for manned aircraft.
Develop Modern Tornado Ground attack L5-31: The design is to be similar to the american a10 - warthog: More details to come
Develop Heavy load NH90: Details to come
Joint French-German EuroFighter : The mission is to create a more nimble fighter that will be equipped with modern digital equipment, have a greater effective range and a more powerful engine that will allow for greater mobility in combat. The fighter must also support a more effective anti missile system [m] details to come.
German Recruitment Project: Increase adds and pro military service programs, create economic incentives, and make the military as a viable alternative to a private sector career.
Sachsen-class frigate Advanced Armament Program : Details to come
Upgrade Brandenburg-class frigate: Details to come
Now for Backstory
Chancellor Nahels couldn't believe her eyes, first the UK, then Sweden, and now Hungary. Europe was becoming less and less stable every day and with the economic downturn of last year, and the rise of revolution in Hungary the military has acted to increase its budget. But seeing as multiple european nations seem to be falling into chaos, the call for a greater and larger german military could be well timed. The recent ad campaign has resulted in an additional 20,000 troops resulting in a total size of 228,000 troops. The German army has been working to modernize as well, with a new battle rifle, and work with other european militaries the german military is becoming more capable then its been in the last 10 years.
Ludig sits in a busy cafe, drinking his coffee, when a man sits down. "Hello there, my name is Barron Von Stoiben, and I represent Sven. It would seem that the movement in Norway has been working with mixed success. But I have somewhat bad news. Georg Friedrich has seemingly also gotten the idea of becoming more active in german political affairs, those that support him in the AFD are preparing a film in his families honor I hear." "Ugh, Ludwig says, that's all I need the rise of a pretender to my throne. First I shall be king of Bavaria we need not the Von Hohenzollern's getting in our way again. Continue to give out the leaflets, and the online chat-rooms seem to be effective, while the country is economically weak, the people look to my leadership. I've been to three charity events this week, and I've worked with the Chancellor to expand unemployment benefits. We must keep the pressure on, slowly, and make our move when the opportunity is right.
Georg Friedrich sits in a room, with multiple actors, all handpicked by Director Hans Bloom. A great supporter of the Kaiser. "All this seems a bit much, we're suggesting that Von Hindenburg was nothing more than power hungry. That he worked to destroy germany, thats, thats conjecture at best and worst a lie We need to be careful," Georg says. "Do you want your families story told, or do you want to continue to have your family trashed and layed low, sir?" Bloom says. "No, no but, well this wasn't what I expected Georg says". "It never is sir, but we can't let progress be slowed, we need to give the people what they want, and what they want is the truth" Bloom said with a Scowl.

2018.07.26 05:17 Superaussmo [Budget] 2021- Overarching Backstory 2019-2025 Part 3

The down turn, its arrived. All this economic growth a crash had to happen sooner or later. With the sudden rise in inflation and decrease in economic growth the German economy has like most other nations, taken a downturn. However unlike most economies, Germany has been in the black for years now, and has been able to pay off its debt for the last few years. But with the downturn comes layoffs, and with the layoffs comes anger, fear, and concern for the future. Not the future of nations, but where tomorrows next meal comes from and if they'll still have a paycheck in a few weeks. Many medium and small businesses have closed in Germany due to the sudden decline in the economy, and due to this Chancellor Nahles has choses to do what the SPD have long wanted to do, expand welfare. The Chancellor has fought hard and long for her 10 billion Euro increase in "relief" funds during this tough time. To get this increase she had to work with her allies, who called for increases in education, defense, research, agriculture subsidies, and infrastructure spending. The Chancellor got her increase, but it has begun to turn the military into a viable alternative for the unemployed which German high command has begun to use to its advantage.
Sceen - A man stands in front of a closed gate, with his phone in his hand and the screen reads, "The plant has closed, and you've been laid off.". Concern fills the man's face as he sits in a cafe, drinking his coffee looking for new jobs. But it seems he's either overqualified, or they too are laying off employees. Rage fills the mans heart, rage at change, and at the system. He's worked hard, he's saved, he's created a life, a family, and this is how life has rewarded him!? But then he sees an ad for the Bundeswehr, "Join up, be respected, fight for you nation, and keep your family safe, with a sign on bonus of 1,000 euros, benefits for the educated. If you wanna make a difference the Bundeswehr is for you!" The man laughs, the Bundeswehr, I'm not a war nut, or some kind of rightwinger. No no no, I'll find something better, something that'll respect my experience. The screen flashes with 2 weeks later, the man is working in a local McDonalds, as a cashier, where his boss is some kid working through uni. The man thinks to himself, only have to do this until I can find a better job, no worries, I'll find something better. Now 2 months have gone by, and the man can no longer take working fast food, with the low pay, and long hours. Stressed from lack of sleep due to money troubles, the mans wife slides him her phone, with the ad from the Bundeswehr, 1,000 Euro signing bonus, "That could sure help", his wife says. Definitely the man says back "Ugh, fine I'll go talk to them, but I'm not right wing nut, I don't think I'll fit in". The man gets to the recruiting office, he sits with multiple other men, all claim to be displaced workers, and that this will be temporary, "just between jobs". The men see the officers, and NCO's walking around, strong, tall, inshape. The man's name is called, and he enters an office. He meets with a Sargent Hans, whom welcomes him. Telling the man of the opportunities that the Bundeswehr can offer, from pilot, to army officer. He'll garner respect, and get in shape, which the sargent leans in and says "the wives love". You'll have a steady source of income, plus a 1,000 euros if you sign on today. The man looks nervous, the sergeant smiles and says, fine fine, you've got me. You can come back, how about in a week, and if you join up, it'll be 1,200 euros. A week goes bye, another week of fast food, money worries, and sleepless nights, then the day comes, the man marches into the office and, signs. We meet up with him months later, fit, leading a squad of troops as a NCO, and without money troubles. Then the screen goes dark, and the following appears "He did it for his family, his fatherland, and himself, can you?"
A similar ad plays for uni grads, in which a grad can't find a job, and then decides to join the Bundeswehr as an pilot. Where her friends are all unable to find work, our new Pilot is loving life and living high in the clouds.
In his study, Ludwig wittelsbach sits with a showy group, men of former noble blood, once counts and dukes, and german princes from the many royal families of southern Germany. Sven had pulled it off, deep in the mansion of the Wittelsbach family this meeting takes place. "Now Gentlemen, we must use this down turn to our advantage, we must show the people that these Liberals, socialists, and bankers care not for their well being. They only care for themselves and however much money they can gather" Ludwig says. "We, need, no must bring the people back to the natural order of things, how god had intended it". It is time we start influencing the people of Bavaria, then the rest of southern Germany. We shall start with social media, and then move into secret underground meetings when the time is right.
Meanwhile, Georg Friedrich has just finished up reading a script handed to him by a top member of the AFD. Claims that via historical fact, the Kaiser did not voluntarily abdicate, but instead was tricked and taken advantage of by Marshal Von Hindenburg whom would come to lead the Weimar Republic after the fall of the German Empire. "This is, well extreme, to say the least" Georg says. Well the AFD agent says, "it's also the truth". "Please stop calling me that, I'm no royal any longer, or at least I'm not pretending to be what we no longer are" Georg says. I, I don't know, if I support this film I'll be making y opinions known, if I refuse, then I gain nothing, and worse yet may add fire to to the flames. You've really put me between a rock and a hard place as the american's say. Fine I'll help finance the film, but I won't publically support or denounce the it until after the public has seen it. "As you wish sir" the AFD agent says.
Today, in the Bundestag, Chancellor Nahles proposed this budget for 2021.

2018.07.25 05:04 Superaussmo [Budget] 2020- Overarching Backstory 2019-2025 Part 2

Chancellor Nahles couldn't believe her eyes, the report had to be false. But the actions in hungary couldn't have been less evident. The political unrest in hungary was growing, and it was the strong opinion of the German high command, intelligence agencies, and her minister of defense that Russia was behind the unrest. Chancellor Nahles, had just come off the heels of a battle to raise foreign aid and Healthcare, and have minimal rases to defense. It was the AFD that claimed that defense spending need to increase and the Chancellor whom was quoted saying "We must work this those that disagree with us, and we must defeat those who will no longer listen". It was an unusual quote from a younger woman, in a political position that she wasn't very comfortable with. She knew domestic policy, and how to better the people, but foreign policy was becoming its own nightmare. She hated meeting with Trump, and Putin, Macron and most of the western Europeans seem to be mangable people, but as Trump and Putin like to point out "Europe is weak, and needs either Russia, or America to defend it from the other". Ugh,she hates that its true. That Europe has become reliant of the Americans so much, and the Russians are able to do almost as they wish in the east. Germany needs to continue to prosper, and grow, if it has trade relations with more nations then no one will dare to attack it, and they alone can have a large effect on the negotiating table.
Afew weeks later
Chancellor Nahles is brought to a research facility, where the EM rail gun is being tested, its being adapted to multiple new chassis, from the Leopard 3A1, to the boxer. Research is slow but the German scientists believe that the technology will result in new innovations for the military the world over. They ask the Chancellor for more funding, and more support but she promises little, and nothing more than the predetermined amount. "We can't forget the very lives of the people these weapons will fight to protect".
In his study Ludwig Wittelsbach is writing a letter to a "Foreign Friend"
Dear Sven (A pen name to be sure)
It has been many months since last I've written you, I've set up my "account" and VPN system so we can talk more regularly. I've also begun to receive the "funds" and have begun to meet with relatives and friends of similar opinion. The work shall continue, and we shall have what is ours.
Signed, HRH L
Meanwhile, Georg Friedrich, finishing the Museum that was once his family home. He says to himself, it'll be open in a month. I hope I've honored you, Great great Grandfather. Standing before a portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm II, a man approaches him from behind. Karl, is that you, I'll be along shortly. But the man replies in a accent, Hello your highness, its a shame about what happened to your prestigious family. Georg turns to see a man in a suit, and tie, he's very average, in both height, and figure. But speaks with a slight Norwegian accent. How Rude of me your highness, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Sven, and I would like to help you make your Great Great grandfather, and house proud. Georg rolls his eyes, and thinks to himself "another loony, how do they keep finding me?" How did you get inhere Sevn? Well sir, I've contributed quite a bit to the museum, I'm also on the advanced tour for contributors. Ahh, well thanks for the offer, but I've been apoached before, and the answer is the same, time and time again; No. I have no interest in becoming or working towards what my family gave up, and its for the best. Sven steps closer, but sir, allow me to explain myself, I represent rather wealthy investors from north of here, whom work for men that you have loose family ties too, that would like to see you retake your throne. We are willing to fund your campaign, and give you support from afar. Georg thinks it over, and says "This sounds quite mad, and beyond that like sedition". Sir, do you not what to see the German people led once more by the greatest of German houses, and the rightful leaders, of Germany? No, I don't the rightful leaders of Germany are the people. Now please Sven, leave. Sven looks rather determined, and says, allow me to give you an address, and send you a letter detailing more of what I'm talking about. If you still disagree, you can walk away, and be left alone, or you can get involved, the choice if yours, your highness. With that Sven bows, and leaves Georg alone with Wihelm II.

BREAKING: TRUMP to delay UK trip -- FIRST IN PLAYBOOK: Aug. recess in jeopardy -- ISENSTADT: MITT shows signs of political revival -- SPOTTED at Mike Shields/Katie Walsh engagement party -- B’DAY: Greta van Susteren

FIRST IN PLAYBOOK -- WE HEAR … There is a chance Congress will stay in session for part of August. There has been political pressure from some members of the House and Senate to stay in town and try to get some things done instead of take a five-week recess. The pressure will only increase if the Obamacare repeal and replace isn’t done in the next few weeks. Congress has just 27 days in session until the summer break. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise: many lawmakers have had to face angry constituents on trips home.
STATEMENTS FROM PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP from Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey -- at 8:22 a.m.: “The #FakeNews MSM doesn’t report the great economic news since Election Day. #DOW up 16%. #NASDAQ up 19.5%. Drilling & energy sector......way up. Regulations way down. 600,000+ new jobs added. Unemployment down to 4.3%. Business and economic enthusiasm way up- record levels!” … at 8:29 a.m.: “I believe the James Comey leaks will be far more prevalent than anyone ever thought possible. Totally illegal? Very ‘cowardly!’” … at 8:49 a.m.: “The Democrats have no message, not on economics, not on taxes, not on jobs, not on failing #Obamacare. They are only OBSTRUCTIONISTS!”
-- TWO QUICK THINGS: Many Democrats will privately agree with Trump that they oftentimes lack a coherent message. But Trump’s presidency has unified Democrats for the first time in a long time … Trump has majorities in the House and Senate, and he’s blaming Democrats for obstructing him.

BREAKING OVERSEAS -- TRUMP PUTS OFF U.K. VISIT -- THE GUARDIAN: “Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain put on hold: U.S. president told Theresa May he did not want trip to go ahead if there were large-scale public protests”: “Donald Trump has told Theresa May in a phone call he does not want to go ahead with a state visit to Britain until the British public supports him coming. The U.S. president said he did not want to come if there were large-scale protests and his remarks in effect put the visit on hold for some time. The call was made in recent weeks, according to a Downing Street adviser who was in the room. The statement surprised May, according to those present.” http://bit.ly/2reskVQ
Good Sunday morning. Jake will be on Steve Hilton’s new Fox News show “The Next Revolution” live from Los Angeles tonight at 9 p.m. East Coast time.
TRUMP stopped by a wedding at his country club in New Jersey last night. http://bit.ly/2t98Uhy
YOU’LL HEAR THIS QUOTE A LOT -- Donald Trump Jr. on Fox News, via the Washington Post: “‘When he tells you to do something, guess what? There’s no ambiguity in it, there’s no, ‘Hey, I’m hoping,'’ Trump said. ‘You and I are friends: ‘Hey, I hope this happens, but you’ve got to do your job.’ That’s what he told Comey. And for this guy as a politician to then go back and write a memo: ‘Oh, I felt threatened.’ He felt so threatened -- but he didn’t do anything.’ Trump also said that Comey’s testimony ‘vindicated’ the president and that everything in it was ‘basically ridiculous.’” http://wapo.st/2t9eJf5
ALEX ISENSTADT in DEER VALLEY, UTAH -- “Romney stokes speculation he’s weighing another political run: The 2012 GOP nominee is plotting how to help Republicans in the midterms, and he’s being coy about his own political future”: “Mitt Romney is once again testing his political power — critiquing President Donald Trump, raising money and campaigning for fellow Republicans, and not ruling out another run for office for himself. The 2012 GOP nominee is returning to the spotlight, six months after Trump -- the man Romney once savaged as unfit for the presidency -- nearly picked him to be secretary of state. …
“Spencer Zwick, a longtime Romney adviser and political gatekeeper, said he’d been inundated with appeals from Republican candidates asking the former GOP nominee to help them. Last week, Romney held his first fundraiser for a 2018 hopeful, an event benefiting Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, a Republican who has been fiercely critical of the president. Over the coming days, Romney is also expected to release a robo-call boosting Georgia Republican Karen Handel, who has been losing ground in a high-stakes June 20 special House election she had once been favored to win.
“‘All I can tell you is that the number of requests that Mitt has gotten in the last month to come to a district or to come to a state for a sitting senator — it’s like he’s a presidential candidate again, which I was surprised by,’ said Zwick, who doubles as a top political aide to House Speaker Paul Ryan. ‘There are only so many people in the party that can headline these things.’” http://politi.co/2rZkZ9X
-- THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE between Republicans wanting to take advantage of Romney’s fundraising prowess, and his running for office and garnering the support he needs to win.
SUNDAY BEST -- JOHN DICKERSON speaks with SEN. JAMES LANKFORD (R-OKLA.) on CBS’S “FACE THE NATION” -- DICKERSON: “On the question of influencing the investigation, again, thinking about the scale, on the one hand the president might have done something that was a little bit crossing a line but he’s a new guy to the job all the way to this question of obstruction of justice. Where do you put, knowing what you know about the president’s behavior, where do you put what he did on that scale?” LANKFORD: “I would say it’s very inappropriate. As Jim Comey said, it’s awkward to be able to have the president of the United States sitting down with someone in the F.B.I., the leadership of the F.B.I., to be able to have direct questions. And for the issue to come up about the Michael Flynn investigations, inappropriate. But the way that it was handled, with no follow-up, with no other press, with no other return to that topic, it looks like what I called a pretty light touch. If this is trying to interfere in a process of any investigation, it doesn’t seem like it was number one, very effective, and number two, came up more than once in a conversation. So this looks more like an inappropriate conversation than obstruction.”
-- SEN. JACK REED (D-R.I.) tells CHRIS WALLACE on “FOX NEWS SUNDAY” that Trump needs to be deposed on all Russia-related questions -- “[T]he deposition is not just about his conversations with Mr. Comey. There are issues with respect to his conversation with director of national intelligence Dan Coats, Admiral Rogers, the NSA director, his relationships with Manafort. By the time the special prosecutor Mr. Mueller is ready to depose or ask the president to speak under oath, there are a myriad of questions. So what I don’t want to see is simply, we’ll I just said I talk about Comey, I’m not talking about anything else. To resolve this situation he has to be prepared to speak on all these matters.”
-- PREET BHARARA speaks to GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS on ABC’S “THIS WEEK” -- STEPHANOPOULOS: “The president’s defenders, like Alan Dershowitz, say there’s no grounds for obstruction. You talked about that. And he, in fact, says that presidents have the constitutional right to fire FBI directors and investigations as much as they want. One of the president’s attorneys, Jay Sekulow, is coming up next. He says there’s no there there, no basis for obstruction. You’re a former prosecutor. Are -- is there evidence there ... to begin a case for obstruction?” BHARARA: “I think there’s absolutely evidence to begin a case. I think it’s very important for all sorts of armchair speculators in the law to be clear that no one knows right now whether there is a provable case of obstruction. It’s also true I think from based on what I see as a third party and out of government that there’s no basis to say there’s no obstruction.”
-- SEN. SUSAN COLLINS (R-Maine) talks to BRIANNA KEILAR on CNN’s “STATE OF THE UNION” -- KEILAR: “I want to ask you about something the president has been cagey about, and that is these tapes, of course. So, I wonder if you would support issuing a subpoena to the White House. Right now, it’s just a request coming from Congress. Would you support issuing a subpoena for the recordings or any documents that might come from that?” COLLINS: “This is an issue that the president should have cleared up in his press conference. He should give a straight yes or no to the answer -- to the question of whether or not the tapes exist. And he should voluntarily turn them over not only to the Senate Intelligence Committee, but to the special counsel. So, I don’t think a subpoena should be necessary. And I don’t understand why the president just doesn’t clear this matter up once and for all.”
THE NEXT MAIN EVENT -- “Sessions will testify before Senate in Russia investigation,” by Kyle Cheney and John Bresnahan: “In a letter to his former colleagues in the House and Senate, Sessions canceled a planned appearance before Congress’ appropriations committees. Sessions said he instead plans to appear on Tuesday before the Intelligence panel to respond to questions stemming from FBI director James Comey’s bombshell testimony last Thursday. …
“If this is an open session ... Sessions will likely face a barrage of questions over his role in Comey’s dismissal, his independence from President Donald Trump, and allegations of additional unreported meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Sessions has already recused himself from the Russia probe after failing to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation of two meetings with Kislyak, and there have been reports of additional sessions.” http://politi.co/2rOVc5P
-- SEN. DIANNE FEINSTEIN (D-CALIF.) told Brianna Keilar on “State of the Union” that she didn’t know if the hearing will be open.
INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW -- “What’s next for Comey? Maybe law, corporate work, politics,” by AP’s Eric Tucker: “So what’s next for James Comey? The former FBI director boldly challenged the president who fired him, accused the Trump administration of lying and supplied material that could be used to build a case against President Donald Trump. But after stepping away from the Capitol Hill spotlight, where he’s always seemed comfortable, the 56-year-old veteran lawman now confronts the same question long faced by Washington officials after their government service.
“His dry quip at a riveting Senate hearing that he was ‘between opportunities’ vastly understates the career prospects now available to him — not to mention potential benefits from the public’s fascination with a man who has commanded respect while drawing outrage from both political parties.” http://apne.ws/2sQlkMb
EYE-POPPING NUMBERS FROM WAPO’S KAREN TUMULTY in SANDY SPRINGS, GEORGIA -- “Trump looms over Georgia special election, a proxy battle for 2018”: “It is an arms race of money and organization. The latest fundraising report, filed Thursday, showed Ossoff raising an additional $15 million in the past two months, nearly quadruple what Handel brought in. With outside groups weighing in, the race has thus far cost more than $40 million -- far outpacing the previous record for a congressional race of nearly $30 million for a Florida contest in 2012.
“Polls indicate there are few voters still undecided. ‘The next 10 days are about turning out the base. There are more of us than them in the district. The more people who vote, the better,’ said Corry Bliss, who heads the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC affiliated with House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.). That organization alone plans to spend about $7 million in the race.” http://wapo.st/2rjhPM4
FASCINATING READ -- “Palantir goes from Pentagon outsider to Mattis’ inner circle,” by Jacqueline Klimas and Bryan Bender: “The Trump era has brought a change of fortune for a Silicon Valley software company founded by presidential adviser Peter Thiel — turning it from a Pentagon outcast to a player with three allies in Defense Secretary Jim Mattis' inner circle. At least three Pentagon officials close to Mattis, including his deputy chief of staff and a longtime confidante, either worked, lobbied or consulted for Palantir Technologies, according to ethics disclosures obtained by POLITICO. That’s an unusually high number of people from one company to have such daily contact with the Pentagon leader, some analysts say.
“It also represents a sharp rise in prominence for the company, which just months ago could barely get a meeting in the Pentagon. Last year, Palantir even had to go to court to force its way into a competition for a lucrative Army contract. Thiel was one of the only Silicon Valley titans to openly support Trump during the campaign, a role that gave him a prime speaking slot at last summer’s Republican convention. He has since acted as a key adviser arranging meetings among the president and other tech executives. While there's no evidence he had a direct hand in these specific Pentagon hires, analysts say they absolutely show his growing influence in the administration, where he holds no formal role.” http://politi.co/2sqMdbS
DEMOCRATS’ NEW PLAYBOOK -- “Democrats bet on Trump in Virginia governor’s race,” by Kevin Robillard: “Virginia’s Democratic primary on Tuesday is shaping up to be the first real test of liberalism in the Trump era, with both candidates lurching for increasingly leftward policies to position themselves in contrast with President Donald Trump. …
“Virginia’s gubernatorial elections often develop into contrasts with a new president, but there’s a stark difference between now and how Republican candidate Bob McDonnell handled then-President Barack Obama in 2009. While critical of the Obama's economic record, the future governor also regularly praised Obama for supporting school choice, straddling the partisan divide. The Democrats have felt no need to do the same with the less popular Trump, whose approval rating was at 36 percent in a recent Washington Post-George Mason University poll of Virginia.” http://politi.co/2rjHzYJ
THE LATEST ON HEALTH CARE -- “Fate of Planned Parenthood funding tied to Senate moderates,” by Jen Haberkorn: “Two female Senate Republicans could stop the anti-abortion movement from achieving its most significant win against Planned Parenthood in decades. Most Republicans want to eliminate the group’s $555 million in federal funding as part of their bill to repeal Obamacare. But as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tries to solve the legislative Rubik’s Cube of finding 50 votes for repeal, he may have to drop the Planned Parenthood cut to win the support of the two Republican moderates, Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.” http://politi.co/2sbbpTf
WHAT SILICON VALLEY IS READING -- “Uber Board to Discuss CEO Travis Kalanick’s Possible Leave of Absence: Board also set to vote on recommendations from a report of an investigation into workplace issues,” by WSJ’s Greg Bensinger: “Uber Technologies Inc. Chief Executive Travis Kalanick will discuss taking a possible leave of absence when the board of directors of the embattled ride-hailing company meets Sunday morning, according to a person familiar with the matter.
“Also on the agenda when the seven-person board convenes is a vote on a series of recommendations from a report prepared by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder regarding its workplace. It was uncertain whether Mr. Kalanick would ultimately take the leave or whether the board would approve of such a measure, which would require finding a temporary replacement in short order.” http://on.wsj.com/2r7Ram8

‘WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT WEEK’ AT THE WHITE HOUSE -- “Donald and Ivanka Trump head to Wisconsin for jobs push,” by ABC News’ Jordyn Phelps: “President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka Trump are set to travel to Wisconsin Tuesday to join Gov. Scott Walker to tour a technical college, as the administration puts a renewed focus on its goal of job creation. The trip is just one event in a week full of activities built around promoting technical skills training and apprenticeships. [They are d]ubbing it ‘workforce development week’ ...
“The president is expected to make what the administration is billing as a ‘major policy speech’ at the Department of Labor on Wednesday, in which he’ll lay out steps the administration will take to encourage workforce development and also call for Congressional action. Ivanka Trump will also lead a roundtable with some 15 CEOs. On Thursday, the president will also host a roundtable discussion, where he will welcome eight governors from states with successful workforce development programs to the White House.” http://abcn.ws/2r7tOwT
THE NEW U.K. POLITICAL REALITY -- “For Britain, Political Stability Is a Quaint Relic,” by NYT’s Steven Erlanger in London: “In a little more than two years, Britain has had two general elections and a nationwide referendum. Each time, the politicians, pollsters, betting markets, political scientists and commentators have got it wrong.
“Once considered one of the most politically stable countries in the world, regularly turning out majority governments, Britain is increasingly confusing and unpredictable, both to its allies and itself. Far from settling the fierce divisions exposed by last year’s referendum on Britain’s exit from the European Union, or Brexit, the election on Thursday only made them worse.” http://nyti.ms/2shhy1i
-- THE POLITICO EUROPE TICK TOCK: “How Theresa May lost it: A reluctance to delegate, hubris and campaigning ineptitude ruined British prime minister’s grand plan to secure a mandate,” by Tom McTague, Charlie Cooper and Annabelle Dickson in London: “Halfway through Britain’s seven-week snap election campaign, some in Theresa May’s team came to the conclusion that they had a problem — the candidate. At a gathering of senior staff in Conservative campaign headquarters in central London, one of May’s top operatives told the sitting prime minister that she risked crashing and burning like Sarah Palin did in 2008. ... To the operative, May was overly controlling and her inexperience would tell during a short, intense campaign. May listened with good grace ... [but] changed nothing.” http://politi.co/2t8VuSG
ACTUAL FAKE NEWS – NYT A22, “A Pro-Trump Conspiracy Theorist, a False Tweet and a Runaway Story,” by Jeremy Peters: “A pro-Trump activist notorious for his amateur sleuthing into red herrings like the ‘Pizzagate’ hoax and a conspiracy theory involving the murder of a Democratic aide, Mr. Posobiec wrote on May 17 that Mr. Comey, the recently ousted F.B.I. director, had ‘said under oath that Trump did not ask him to halt any investigation.’ …
“But as the journey of that one tweet shows, misinformed, distorted and false stories are gaining traction far beyond the fringes of the internet. Just 14 words from Mr. Posobiec’s Twitter account would spread far enough to provide grist for a prime-time Fox News commentary and a Rush Limbaugh monologue that reached millions of listeners, forging an alternative first draft of history in corners of the conservative media where President Trump’s troubles are often explained away as fabrications by his journalist enemies.
“In this fragmented media environment, the spread of false information is accelerated and amplified by a web of allied activist-journalists with large online followings, a White House that grants them access and, occasionally, a president who validates their work. The right-wing media machine that President Bill Clinton’s aides once referred to as ‘conspiracy commerce’ is now far more mature, extensive and, in the internet age, tough to counter.” http://nyti.ms/2sbduPm
DEEP DIVES -- NYT A1, “Opioid Dealers Embrace the Dark Web to Send Deadly Drugs by Mail: Anonymous online sales are surging, and people are dying. Despite dozens of arrests, new merchants — many based in Asia — quickly pop up,” by Nathaniel Popper (print headline: “Drug Trade Rises in Dark Corners of the Internet”): “As the nation’s opioid crisis worsens, the authorities are confronting a resurgent, unruly player in the illicit trade of the deadly drugs, one that threatens to be even more formidable than the cartels. The internet. In a growing number of arrests and overdoses, law enforcement officials say, the drugs are being bought online. Internet sales have allowed powerful synthetic opioids such as fentanyl — the fastest-growing cause of overdoses nationwide — to reach living rooms in nearly every region of the country, as they arrive in small packages in the mail.” http://nyti.ms/2t91CdL
--“China’s New Bridges: Rising High, but Buried in Debt: China has built hundreds of dazzling new bridges, including the longest and highest, but many have fostered debt and corruption,” by NYT’s Chris Buckley: “The eye-popping structures have slashed travel times in some areas, made business easier and generated a sizable slice of the country’s economy, laying a foundation, in theory at least, for decades of future growth. But as the bridges and the expressways they span keep rising, critics say construction has become an end unto itself. Fueled by government-backed loans and urged on by the big construction companies and officials who profit from them, many of the projects are piling up debt and breeding corruption while producing questionable transportation benefits.” http://nyti.ms/2t9er7I

The result was Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, published in 1971. Thompson’s coverage of the 1972 presidential campaign ‘reshaped what it meant to write about politics’. 2017.06.05 19:22 badpauly 6-5: Last Week Notable Insider Buys

These are insider buys of $10K or more reported to the SEC in the last 7 days. The SEC defines an insider as any officer, director or 10% shareholder. It is not illegal for these people to buy or sell their own shares. In fact, since most of them get paid in stock options, it is expected. However, it is illegal for them to trade on inside information that has not been made public. So for example if there are drug trial results that are bad and not public, insiders cannot dump shares. That said, many people have observed that insiders - in general - seem to have a good track record at timing their purchases.

Susan Simpson and others have speculated that "the Nisha call" occurred on February 14th, 1999, when Adnan called her in the vicinity of Southwest Video.
In her April 1st, 1999 police interview Nisha says that she thought the call "was around time he 1st got cell phone" and that she thought it "was in the afternoon or maybe later on - 4 or 5"
She later describes when Adnan stopped calling her:
Stopped calling me the day after this other party. Has to be before 26th. Went to this party with AJ. Think it was a Friday in February before 26th. Definitely Friday the 12th. He called the next day after.
Ran into Adnan 2/12 at Indian Party - Coco Cobana in D.C. -- RAAS Rage
Competitions between colleges, then there is a party
Sticks with dances, $ can be won
Different states come
[I] got to party late - 11p - left 20 minutes later
(Adnan called me from road and asked where it was)
We talked next day. We were talking about how party ended fast because someone pulled the alarms.
It appears that Nisha was off by 1 day. There are no calls from Adnan to Nisha on Feb 12th, but there was one at 8:19PM on Feb 13th. And Feb 13th was the night that RAAS Rage was held according to the George Washington University Lisner Auditorium Records.
(Note: I've spot checked this against both the 03/09/1999 Margaret Cho performance and the 11/02/2001 RAAS Chaos competition; the dates provided match with the dates that the dates the events were held.)
Adnan called Nisha at 7:17PM on February 14th. There is no record of him calling her again, which would correspond with her recollection.
So, if it was the last time he called her, the following would have to be true for February 14th to have been "the Nisha call:"
1) It was day after the last time Nisha and Adnan saw each other.
2) It was Valentine's Day
3) Adnan told her he was calling from a porn store
4) Adnan handed the phone to Jay for no apparent reason
5) Adnan arrested for murder exactly 2 weeks later
6) Adnan stopped calling her afterward.
7) Nisha remembered both the call and what it concerned, but somehow conflated it with a call from mid-January that she described as a "short conversation."
Innocenters, I'll do you a solid and point out there may be some reason to believe that Feb 14th was not the last time Adnan called Nisha. In the same police interview, Nisha relayed the following:
Parents didn't know about Korean girlfriend, parents found out about girl when detectives came over and questioned him.
Think his mother was upset when detective came over and exposed him.
The only record we have of detectives visiting Adnan's home was on Feburary 26th, which would be after Adnan supposedly stopped calling Nisha. However, we also know for certain that Adnan's parents did know about Hae as early as November 1998, given their antics at the Homecoming Dance. And Nisha may simply be conflating a call from detectives to Adnan's home with an in-person visit. Or, "stopped calling" may not have been a literal statement. Maybe Adnan called once or twice after Feb 14th, but not nearly as frequently as he had before.
Having Adnan's phone bill for Feb 19th through Feb 28th would be immensely helpful to figure all this out.
ETA: Detective O'Shea did visit Adnan's house and apparently spoke to his mother on January 25th. Big thanks to hart2hart616.

Them darned seagulls get everywhere dont envy you worked in an office for 20+ years ill health made me evaluate things unskilled so my options were limited chose window cleaning wish id found it from the beginning the great outdoors and all that.

Have you been caught out by this scam before? Hi no thankfully not happened to me remember seeing that some time ago would not be happy I have been scammed by customers done a runner without paying ,hiding behind curtains when I know there in, sending their young children to the door telling them to say their not in really feel like calling social services when they say that ! All in all the majority of my customer base are great payers.
Anything to confess? I forgot to flush.

How many naked woman have you seen while doing your job? Was this you? I work from the ground so dont see much action some ladies have come to their front door with very little on tho, so the answer is no.
I see window cleaners every so often with massive poles and rubber things-squidgers on the end. How do you get the watesoap to get up there, and how do you see if you've missed a bit? I always wondered... Love to know what a squidger is btw if you mean squeegee that is for removing the cleaning solution i have a brush on the end of my pole, the water is pumped up to the brush by a diaphragm pump powered by a battery other than bird muck you cant really see what is on the window so the higher you go you rely on your technique so no complaints means your doing your job properly.
Ever cleaned a famous persons house? Yes clean a millionaires house only has it done every quarter obviously struggling to make ends meet !
Have you got a long-suffering dog who does most of the work while you flirt with the customers? I am the long suffering dog aint got time to flirt love the link.

Do you know that film from the 70s 'the ups and downs of ebing a window cleaner' is it anything at all like that? Think there were many confessions of films take it with a pinch of salt like the rest, dont forget its entertainment why your husbands not a window cleaner is he ;)
Does it scare you to be up high? Personally I would be terrified lol. Not really a ladder user work from the ground using a purified water fed pole.
Had a lot of questions like this on the same theme which i've answered previously suprisingly considering what I do I am not comfortable with heights.
What is the golden rule, or at least some tips to avoid streaks? Do not work in direct sunlight your supposedly clean window wont be when you look from the other side make sure all your cloths are clean a little tip look at the glass from the side to see any errors or spots youve missed youd be suprised that you did not see them looking straight on.
Do you also own a really intelligent dog without a mouth? Yes hes a labradoodle defInitely cleverer than me, judging by the condition of slippers in the home he certainly has got a mouth.
Ever encounter any housewives looking to pay for your services using their body? Some of them would have to get the iron out first before offering their body.
Why which other body would they use.
But window cleaning is a noble profession. Meaning of noble =having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles. yep thats me to a t.
I miss window cleaners in the UK. Since moving here I have tried getting my windows cleaned here in the US but it costs about $400! They don't realize that over in the UK people get it done monthly for much less. Yes I have heard this does it not take them a long time tho they have to remove the screens first before they can clean the windows also the water fed pole method has taken off in the usa in recent years ironic really because the first pole system was manufactured in america by tucker.
How do I get water spots off glass. Sounds like someone has got a bit excited with the garden hose you could try cillit bang lime and grime or mister muscle do a spray or another alternatve is a magic pad eraser white ,wilkos or poundstretcher sell them and probably your big supermarkets may do also should do the trick.
How do you clean without having this stripes . If you mean lines make sure the rubber in your squegee is not worn i use the s stroke myself so hopefully dont get that problem but a clean scrim or microfibre can tidy up any little flaws in your technique.
Are there really no dentists in the UK? No try china i believe you can get an appointment at two thirty ;)
