Introducing: The Royal Family of Monaco

2020.10.28 15:29 cincbus Introducing: The Royal Family of Monaco

Prince Rainier III (1923-2005)
Rainier’s mother, Princess Charlotte, was actually illegitimate. Her father Louis II, getting older and with no legitimate children, legitimized her and made her his heir. She never took the throne, and in fact renounced her rights to her son, Rainier, the day before his 21st birthday.
Rainier became the Sovereign Prince of Monaco upon the death of his grandfather in 1949.
During WW2, Rainier served in the Free French Army. During the 40s and 50s he was in a long term relationship with the French film actress Gisele Pascal. Rainier’s sister, Princess Antoinette, wanted her own son to ascend to the throne, and spread rumors that Pascal was infertile. The rumors along with her treatment by the press and public ended their relationship.
After the war Monaco, a country who made its money primarily as a gambling origin, was in crisis as wealthy Europeans found their funds diminished after the war. To restore Monaco’s treasury Rainier decided to promote Monaco as a tax haven, and he personally took control of SBM (the company who owns the Monte Carlo Casino, Opera, and Hostel de Paris) in 1964. Prince Albert still retains a large share of the company and profits from it today.
Marriage:
Everyone knows this one. Rainier married American film star Grace Kelly in 1956.
Their marriage is rumored to have been turbulent. It is said that Grace struggled with adjusting to royal life, regretted ending her film career, and that Rainier had extramarital affairs. Her children have stated that though she was a loving mother, they spent more time with nannies than with their parents.
Grace's dress is iconic, but here you go if you want to revisit some photos from that day.
Rainier smoked up to 60 cigarettes per day, and in the last years of his life his health steadily declined. On March 8th, 2005 he entered the hospital for a lung infection and by the end of the month he was on a ventilator suffering from renal and heart failure. On March 31st he officially announced his son Albert, as regent, and on April 6th he died.
The Constitution
Monaco’s constitution stated that Monaco is a constitutional monarchy ruled by the hereditary princes of the Grimaldi. If the reigning prince were to die without leaving a male heir, Monaco, according to the treaty, would be incorporated into France. In 2002, realizing he had a 43 year old bachelor son, Rainier amended the constitution to allow the crown to pass to his daughters should Albert not marry.
Grace, Princess of Monaco (1929-1982)
Grace was born in Philadelphia to an affluent and influential family. Her father was an Olympian and a Democratic nominee for Mayor of Philadelphia and was appointed by President Roosevelt as National Director of Physical Fitness. Her mother taught physical education at the University of Pennsylvania and coached women’s athletics at Penn.
Her Uncle, George Kelly, was a Pulitzer prize winning dramatist, screenwriter, and director and used his influence to gain Grace admission to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Grace became one of the biggest movie stars of her generation.
In 1955 she was sent to the Cannes Film Festival and invited to appear in photos with Prince Rainier. After a year-long courtship, they were married in 1956.
Grace was not allowed to continue her acting career after her marriage. She instead devoted herself to her role as Princess, become heavily involved with the Red Cross of Monaco and the Rainbow Coalition Children.
On September 13, 1982, Kelly was driving back to Monaco after spending time at her country home. During the drive she had a stroke, lost control of her vehicle, and drove off the mountainside. She died a day later.
An article on their relationship
Prince Albert II (b. 1958)
Prince Albert is one of the wealthiest royals in the world with a net worth at more than $1B. He attended Amherst College in Massachusetts, studying political science, economics, music, and English literature, and completed his education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He toured Europe in 1979 as part of the Amherst College Glee Club.
Albert competed in the bobsleigh for five consecutive Winter Olympics on behalf of Monaco, and was their flag bearer at the 1988, 1994, and 1998 Olympics. He is also a judo black belt.
He became Prince of Monaco when his father died in 2005.
Marriage:
Prior to his marriage his status as a bachelor was a hot topic of discussion. He was known to date well-known fashion models and actresses, however at age 53 had never married. It was rumored that Albert was gay, something he expressed great frustration with in the press. In 2006 he attended the opening ceremony of the Torino Olympics with South African swimmer Charlene Wittstock. They were engaged in 2010, and married in 2011.
There are rumors that Charlene tried to flee the country the day before their wedding. It is reported that the future bride, after discovering Albert may have fathered yet another child during their relationship, attempted to flee as many as three times before their wedding, however was always intercepted at the airport. It is also said she attempted to seek refuge at the South African embassy, and that officials in Monaco ended up hiding her passport so she could not leave the country.
Moreover, during their wedding, Charlene openly cried at parts, and Prince Albert was caught on camera begging her to kiss him. Honestly, she looked pretty miserable the whole time. The palace has denied all of these claims.
During their honeymoon, they stayed in separate hotels
Here's everything you ever needed to know about their wedding
Watch it
Prince Albert is passionate about the environment and an avid sportsman. Prince Albert speaks French, English, German, and Italian. He speaks English with basically no accent thanks to his American mother.
Illegitimate Children
In 2005, the day before Prince Rainier died, Albert publicly acknowledged he had fathered a son out of wedlock. In 2006, he confirmed he had also fathered a daughter. These children were barred from the line of inheritance because of a 2002 constitutional amendment requiring an heir’s parents to be married.
Alexandre (b. 2003)
Alexandre’s mother (Nicole Coste) was a flight attendant for Air France and met Prince Albert when he was a passenger on a flight. He asked for her number, the beginning of a years-long affair. The relationship ended at the insistence of Prince Rainier. Albert visited Alexandre and Nicole often, however when he refused to acknowledge Alexandre publicly, Nicole sold an interview and pictures to the media. Albert was in mourning for his father and made no public comment, but later did acknowledge paternity. Alexandre and Nicole live in France at an estate given to them by Albert.
Jazmin (b. 1992)
Jazmin’s mother, Tamara, met Albert while working as a waitress. Albert knew of Jazmin and visited her, however did not acknowledge her publicly until she was in high school to protect her identity. In 2006 the French magazine Voici published photographs of Jazmin and her mother on a visit to Monaco, outing her as Albert’s daughter. She has attended events with Albert and Charlene, and is listed as a sponsor for her father’s royal foundation.
An interview with Jazmin
Princess Charlene (b. 1978)
Born in Zimbabwe, Charlene’s family relocated to South Africa in 1989. She represented South Africa at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, finished fifth in the 4x100 meter relay.
Albert and Charlene met at the Mare Nostrum swimming competition in Monaco in 2000, however were not seen together until 2006.
Charlene converted to Roman Catholicism for her wedding, and has learned French and Monegasque after her move to Monaco. She is an ambassador for the Special Olympics, patron of the South African Red Cross, and is passionate about sport.
In recent news, she completed “the crossing” water bike challenge, a 180 kilometer water bike race for charity.
An interview with Charlene and Albert on the 1st birthday of their twins
Albert and Charlene have 2 children:
Hereditary Prince Jacques *twin* (b. 2014)
Princess Gabriella *twin* (b. 2014)
Gabriella was born 2 minutes before her brother, however because of the constitution her brother will inherit the throne. They are super sweet together and you see them at events often.
Princess Caroline of Hanover (b. 1957)
Caroline is the eldest child of Rainier and Grace Kelly, however because of the constitution her brother, Albert, sits on the throne of Monaco. She served as de facto first lady of Monaco until the marriage of Albert and Charlene.
Until the birth of her niece and nephew she was heir presumptive to the throne, although she had only held that title since 2005 after the change of the constitution to include female heirs.
Caroline received her French baccalaureat in 1974, and received a degree in Philosophy from Sorbonne University. She is fluent in French, English, Spanish, German, and Italian. Her hobbies include horseback riding, swimming, and skiing.
Marriages:
Married Phillippe, a Parisian banker, in 1978. The couple divorced in 1980 with no children.
Married Stefano in 1983, the sportsman heir to an Italian industrial fortune. The two had to marry in a civil ceremony rather than a religious ceremony because Caroline, a Catholic, was divorced. Caroline was 3 months pregnant at the time of their wedding.
They have three children:
  1. Andrea Casiraghi (1984)
  1. Charlotte Casiraghi (1986)
  1. Pierre Casiraghi (b. 1987)
Note: The Casiraghi’s are all very beautiful and very fashionable but I don’t want to go much into them here because they are so far down the line of succession. They’re fun to follow for their fashion if you have the time to check them out.
Married Ernst August, a Prince, in 1999. They have one daughter, Princess Alexandra.
Caroline is thus a Princess twice-over, through her family and through her husband. She and Ernst August have been separated since 2009 however are still legally married, thus she retains the title of Princess Caroline of Hanover.
Read about all of her weddings here
See her speaking in English around 12:00 here
Princess Stephanie (b. 1965)
Stephanie was in the vehicle with her mother when Grace died. She suffered a fracture of the neck.
She has studied classical dance and piano, and competed in gymnastics and horse riding. She interned at Christian Dior and debuted as a model in 1984. She has a swimwear and perfume line, and owns cafes and stores in both Monaco and Barcelona. She also has sold more than 2 million copies of her song, Ouragan, and sold 1.5M copies of her album Besoin. She recorded “In the Closet” with Michael Jackson, however is listed as “mystery girl” in the credits.
Marriages/Relationships:
Stephanie married her former body guard, Daniel Ducruet, in 1995. When Rainier learned of their relationship Daniel was not only still his employee, but had a pregnant girlfriend too. Stephanie gave birth to their two children “out of wedlock” because Rainier refused to grant permission for them to marry, however eventually relented. The two divorced a year later after Ducruet was photographed naked with a stripper.

They have two children:
  1. Louis (b. 1992)
  1. Pauline (b. 1994)

Stephanie and Jean never married, however have a child together. He was Rainier’s Head of Security. She did not identify him on the birth certificate and it was not confirmed that he was Camille’s father until she confirmed it herself on her Instagram.
More about Jean

Stephanie met elephant trainer (yeah, you read that right) when she presented him with the award for “best animal tamer” at the Monaco Circus Festival in 1997. Franco, a decade older than Stephanie, was married with two children at the time. Franco left his family for Stephanie, moving her and her three children into his circus caravan in Zurich. Marrying in 2001, their relationship lasted 18 months until their divorce.
An interview with Stephanie in English in 1990
Why is he a Prince and not a King?
From vogue:
It goes back deep into the history of Monaco. Monaco has always been a tiny nation, and, for protection, allied itself with (or, at some points, was flat-out annexed by) big powerful countries, with big powerful rulers—aka kingdoms, or, a nation ruled by a king or queen. So Monaco’s rulers styled themselves as prince and princess. That, by definition, made the nation a principality, or one ruled by prince or princess.
Regardless, Albert actually plays a bigger role in the day to day operations of the country than most of his European peers. Legislative power is divided between the Prince who initiates the laws, and the National Council who votes on them. Executive power is retained by the Prince, and he has full judiciary powers.

I think the Ocean Tiara, gifted to Charlene for her wedding, is particularly interesting. You either love it or you hate it.

2020.10.26 16:09 Agrarfield Kaiserslautern's homegrown star Michael Dreier leaves after 6 years at the club. A summary of his career.

Kaiserslautern's homegrown star Michael Dreier leaves after 6 years at the club. A summary of his career.
We knew it would happen eventually but that doesn't change that it will be hard to say goodbye. After the club failed to reach a Champions League spot in the table rumors about the likelihood of Dreier's departure started to spread. Now, as of this date, it has been confirmed that Juventus (Piemonte Calcio if you insist) and FCK have come to an agreement. Juventus has paid Dreier's enormous release clause of 203,5 million euros and as far as we are informed, Dreier has already signed their contract.
On this occasion, let's take a look on Dreier's time at the club, how it all started and where it went.
Off to new adventures: Kaiserslautern's youth academy star leaves club
Michael Dreier (*29.12.2002 in Regensburg, Germany) joined our youth academy in October 2019 when he was 16 years old. Back then we still played in the 3rd division but had had a great start of the season with our new manager Kai Lauter. Lauter had brought his friend and scout Urs Haas to the club who he knew from his time as a coach in Switzerland. Haas had spent several months traveling through Germany and scouted Dreier from Jahn Regensburg's U17 squad.
"Such a thing is rare", Haas told us shortly after Dreier's arrival. "I have seen many promising 16-year-olds play throughout my career, but I have no doubt that this boy will be an important player for the first team in 2-3 years".
He wasn't wrong. Dreier was promoted to the first team in 2020 and made his debut in the 2nd division after the departure of Christian Kühlwetter. Despite his age he convinced Lauter and started to play more frequently throughout the first half of the season. By the end of April 2021 he was a regular starter and had already drawn the attention of international clubs. The promotion to the first division failed that year but fortunately, the 18 year old's contract could be extented for another two years.
Our second season in the 2nd Bundesliga started well for him - until November. Michael suffered a shoulder injury against HSV (1-2) and was out for two months. We were worried about how this might affect his development but, as we now know, our concern was unjustified. He returned in February and still managed to score 9 goals, helping the team to reach the 3rd place in the table. As you might know we won both relegation matches against Union Berlin and were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time since our relegation in 2012.
The first season in the Bundesliga was not only great for the club (a reminder: we reached the final of the DFB-Pokal for the 2nd time in a row and also managed to finish in a UEL spot even though everyone had expected us to be relegated) but also for Dreier. During the winter break, Atletico Madrid showed interest in him but to our relief the negotiations broke down. Michael was a starter in almost every matched, contributed 9 goals, 8 assists and reached an average rating of 7,6. This made him our 2nd best player in the 22/23 season - only our striker Kalle Abraham was rated higher (8,1). It's also worth mentioning that he made his first appearance for Germany.
Dreier was a little less noticeable in 23/24 but only if we focus on the amount of goals and assists. This year his key to success was consistency and an impressive performance of the whole squad: although the results were tight many times and we often had to trust our keeper Lennart Grill during penalty shootouts in the Europa league, a dream came true at the end of the season - not just for him but for all of us. Dreier scored the decisive penalty in the EL final and lifted the trophy together with Grill and Luis Milla who was our captain in this season.
Two crucial players left us in the summer of 2024, however, Dreier wasn't one of them - yet. He played for Germany at the Euros and entered contract renewal negotiations with FCK in October. We don't know the details but can only imagine that his extension wasn't easy to achieve. Multiple clubs had knocked at the door and we suspect that the 21year old already would have left after the Euros if we had not qualified for the Champions League. The information about the release clause was only made public later. After another injury in November which again forced him to stay off the pitch until February, he played a crucial role on our road to the UCL semi final and yet another DFB-Pokal final, creating many chances and contributing many assists.
Dreier with his team mates Unai Vencedor, Torben Brandt, Tim Hölzel and Jonas Bachmann before the CL Semi Final 2025.
As mentioned in the beginning we did not qualify for the Champions League in 2025. After losing the first leg of the CL semi final 0-2 at home, a 1-0 win away wasn't enough and our road ended against Barcelona. We also lost the final of the DFB-Pokal (1-2 against Hoffenheim) and bottled our CL spot in the table, finishing 6th. This, combined with rumours that our manager might look for a new club as well, was followed by Dreier's departure to Juventus.
Even though we might be sad now we must focus on the positive part of this: Michael Dreier became the player he is today at Kaiserslautern and nothing can change this. We look back happily on our time with him, are proud of his development and grateful for everything he has done for the club. There is no doubt about it that he will always be remembered well and that he feels the same way about his time here.

2020.10.26 06:39 Dogedogerson666 Never ending ballad of a unstable boy.

I know that no ones going to see this but I sort of want to get it off my chest somewhere.
To start off, I am currently 17 (m) and I've been pretty unimpressed with my life sense some time before July of 2016, I don't exactly know what started it but that is the date of my first note. I've been stockpiling notes every few months, ending up with around 42 iterations. I guess it could have started with me being the target of several bullies that had an odd amount of resentment for me. in the beginning of middle school. I was raised as a Christian with military family standers, so I was instructed to just take it and not call out for help or bother anyone. A few things that was an easy target for them to pick on me with would include my inability to eat fruits or vegies through something called Oral Allergy Syndrome, my heavy asthma. horribly bad eye sight, unathletic ability's, and the fact that I started to learn different languages such as Russian. Some of the names consisted of "School Shooter",
Communist", "Drug Dealer", "Stalker", "Freak", "Mentally Disabled", "Pedo", "Retard", and the other more common ones. Now I highlight these names because I am still known by these to this day.
Fast forward a year and I've grown a major porn addiction, it made me even more recluse and socially incapable. Even at this point in my life, I though my life was going to be a waste. This continued on until middle schools senior year, I was trying to impress a new and quite the mistake of friends that wanted some stuff from me. With me starving for social interaction from my peers, I though bringing a ceramic and painted mold cast of a m1 pineapple grenade, you can probably guess what happened with me and the school from this day. I was put on a watch list and was visited monthly by the police, it didn't help that on the day that I brought the "grenade" I was gutting and unsoldering a old pc, so it truly look like I was bomb making.
The start of high school I had horrible anxiety and psoriasis potently showing on both hands and nose region ,I was repugnant. I found that cutting had help with dealing with some of the stress, it was my routine when going to sleep. I hadn't cut like people normally would, I used my legs, as I always wore long pants no matter what, I would normally make 50 cuts a night. I still wouldn't really connect with anyone. The school I had gone to / still going to has a tabletop club, and that is when I was introduced to DnD. I was in a campaign for the first time hosted by a teacher, and I've had a few friends when it was over.
Over the next year and a half, I was running my own campaign with 12 characters / "friends", the start was always shaky but things started to level out around the 5 session, that is when I started to bring snacks and drinks. Iv been paying around 30 bucks a session for the snacks and drinks, only now I know they where using me. Doing that time I was also coming to tuition of my sexuality , I was thinking that I was gay but I see more of Bi at this point.
When covid hit, the campaign stopped abruptly and those in the campaign never talked to me. I had a few other people I thought where friend to, but it always seems like they only talked to me when I talked first. I've tested this by not talking first for the first week, nothing happened. Still as I am typing this, nothing happened. The only message or email I get is from school or the chores sent out by my parents. In this new wake, Iv built my self my own homemade shot gun, just incase I would like to take something that is so cheap and without value. I also don't think its normal to start hearing noises coming from my dark and empty bed room, I always mistake it for someone being there (but who would).
I've never been in a relationship or had the thought of one, I just never had the want or need to open my self up like I am today, the most iv ever had a crush on was this cute, smart girl that was nice to me on occasion, she would sit across from me in one of my classes and give me the decency to ask if I was doing ok with the work that would be given out in chemistry. That was two years ago , and even know we haven't connected, I still think about her.

like for real? the true teachings of christianity are against pre-marital sex and dating which pua's aim to do. (many christcucks seem to be evangelical/born-again which is against pre-marital sex etc).
Hey I don't care if you believe in Jesus it just seems very odd and contradictory. Like shouldn't pua's/magow be the very LAST people you would want in your church? Heck if I was a pastor I would not want pua's in my church. (since pua's drink, have sex, or in the case of mgtow have no families) which is against evangelical teachings).
Its bizarre! It's like a a Muslim missionary going to a Sports Bar to try to convert people lol. 😂 (Muslims are not allowed to drink alchohol).
My THEORY is that LETS BE REAL a GOOD amount of manosphere folk have lower social status and are down on our luck. (hey I am one too lol nothing to be ashamed of). In the Bible Jesus saught the folk down on their luck to join his church. ie. "fishers of men" HENCE many evangelical/born again ACTIVELY look for those specific type of guys to join their church.
-is that theory true?
-NOT bashing christians it's your life just why not look for converts elsewhere rather than on websites SPECIFICALLY designed to help men have pre-marital sex/go clubbing etc?

Well, for us, all sin is equal. It's sounds harsh, but a lie is just as bad as murder in the eyes of God. I could expand on the reasoning for this, but it's not the point.
Everyone has done something that is against God's will. It is inevitable. The point is trying to work past that. When you trip and fall, you get back up.
You are right, it is super odd to be evangelizing in the pickup artist community, as most of them are there to pick up chicks, which is against God's will. Evangelizing in that community is not really a great way to go about doing things because people will wonder why you are there.
It's always worth spreading the gospel, but going out of your way to invade someone's space just to do that is the wrong way to go about things. Christians are meant to spread it wherever they go. Going out of their way can end poorly.
I would compare it to the LGBTQ+ stuff in media right now. I can live with it, I dont agree with their philosiphies, but that is between them and God, not them and me. Seeing it crammed down my throat in movies and tv is annoying, but not because I hate them. It's because I'm watching this to be entertained, and am instead getting preached at.
You go to these communities for something, and instead you get preached at by people who don't belong there. It is annoying, and I absolutely get the way you feel.
No person is ever going to be perfect, and I have found that in any church, a little less than half the members have a flawed idea of how to properly serve the Lord and evangelize. They are only human, after all. The people you are dealing with are not the brightest bulbs, and are functioning on a Jehovahs Witnesses mentality. It's not great, and it will more often than not turn people away from the Lord.
TL;DR I ultimately agree with you, these people should not be invading your space, and if they are there for the same reason you are, there is something fundementally wrong with their take on this religion.

I guess I actually do read bible stories for fun they have a lot of interesting history. i am not an athiest I do believe in a supreme being. however wouldn't it be more fruitful looking for christian converts in Africa/latin america/charity. (those regions are the fastest growing among evangelicals).
i just notice a large pattern of evangelical types (this does NOT apply to you) acting like the "jehova's witnesses" of the manosphere (ie bringing up specifically evangelical/born-again christianity into men's issues without it being asked)
-hey you do you. I honeslty believe relgion can be a GOOD thing in some people's lives. I just find it a bit odd that evanglicalism/born-again in particular seems so fascinated with PUA/mgtow/incel content rather than folks in their local communities that are actually interested in converting into the faith.

2020.10.24 10:12 el_moro_blanco Would I be more attractive if I left Islam?

So I'm a 40m, and I've been a Muslim for most of my life, but over the last decade or so I've grown increasingly disillusioned by my faith. Or maybe moreso my coreligionists rather than anything else. One huge thing is that I've been single all this time, and my religion has come to feel more like a trap than a way of life. I haven't been on a date in a decade. Women just don't like me, least of all Muslim women. I repeatedly get told to leave my faith, that I don't belong, that I should convert, that I'm not really white, and frankly I'm getting very sick of it. I've already written off the possibility of ever marrying someone within my faith because I've never had a Muslim woman who was interested in me or returned my attraction. The best I could hope for would be marrying someone and getting them to convert, which is already a pretty tall order. But lately I've been entertaining the notion of simply leaving my faith altogether.
I have a huge advantage; I'm white. I'm an American. My family isn't Muslim, and to be honest, I doubt anyone in my own community cares enough about me to even notice I was gone. I'm sure some people would be relieved not to have to deal with me. It seems Islam in America has increasingly become more of an ethnic social club than a real religion, and since South Asian and Arab women REALLY dislike me, I'm left wondering if I shouldn't just leave my religion entirely. Stop praying, stop going to mosque, stop observing Ramadan, burn my Quran and never mention it. Its a daunting step. I really don't have a lot of friends, but I never have so that's not an issue. I'm... really not sure how to be a white Anglo-American, and that's a bigger one.
But would it help my dating life? I would imagine it might open up a few more possibilities. At the very least it might make me more attractive to white Christian and Atheist women with lower standards. Its not like Muslims are especially well liked in America, especially white converts. If I leave, I can just focus on my race and be an Atheist or whatever and it might make more women like me. Or is this a silly thing to even think about?

2020.10.21 07:16 EnGoodz ❗ Famous Founder of the ‘Modern Gay-Rights Movement’ Harry Hay, Mentor was a Jesuit Priest & Says Wearing a Mask is for Homosexuals

Devout Roman Catholic, O.T.O Member, Liberation Theologian, & Famous Founder of the ‘Modern Gay-Rights Movement’ Harry Hay, Most Serious Mentor was a Jesuit Priest & Said Wearing a Mask is for Homosexual Occultists Practicing Communism

“After approximately ten years in South Africa, Big Harry set his sights on Margaret Neall at the formal dances, lawn tennis, and similar social occasions sponsored by the Martha Washington Club for American women in South Africa. Few stories of their courtship survive, save that Margaret’s parents disapproved; there was a seventeen-year age difference between the couple, and Hay was not Catholic. They may have also worried that despite his already accumulated riches, the demanding life of the ambitious, 42-year-old man would be taxing to whomever he married. In fact, he had just been offered the job of opening new gold mines in the uncolonized district of Tarkwa in the Gold Coast. But Margaret knew her own mind and was herself ambitious. Her military family had been genteel but never affluent, and when the handsome, wealthy man proposed, she accepted. As part of the arrangement, Big Harry converted to Catholicism and agreed that any children would be raised in the Catholic Church.”

“Harry’s most serious Mentor was a Jesuit Priest who invited him for weekly tutoring sessions on Philosophy and Religion, hoping (unsuccessfully) to persuade young Harry to take the cloth.”

“When in later years he told this favorite coming-out story, he referred to it ironically as his ‘child molestation speech,’ to make the point of how sharply gay life differs from heterosexual norms. ‘As a child,’ he explained, ‘I molested an adult until I found out what I needed to know.’ He recalled that Matt’s promise of a new world and a future served as a life raft during the isolated period of high school. Far from being an experience of ‘molestation,’ Harry always described it as ‘the most beautiful gift that a fourteen-year-old ever got from his first love!’ The following year, a rapidly maturing Harry broke with the Catholic Church. Like his father, he was not particularly Religious to begin with, but he attended Mass regularly at St. Gregory’s [Roman Catholic Jesuit controlled St. Gregory Nazi-anzen Church Bronson Ave, Los Angeles], at Ninth Street and Norton, to perform his bass solos in the choir. ‘When the soprano was absent, I could use my counter-tenor high head-tones to sing her part. Since the Congregation sat in front of us, nobody noticed that it was me. For the same reason, they didn’t notice when I slipped under the seats with the nice-looking tenor, George, and kissed during mass.’ The Saturday afternoon before Easter [Babylonian child orgy and sacrifice Feast of Ishtar, nowhere found in the Bible, Constantine replaced the Feast of Passover for it] of that year he waited, with many of the other Parishioners of St. Gregory’s, to endure the twice-yearly Confession. ‘Almost everyone in the Congregation was there,’ he recalled, as the Priest, Father Follen, took the Confessions one by one. When it was Harry’s turn, he made his confession, but ‘instead of telling me a penance, Father Follen asked, ‘And now, my son, have you thoroughly searched your soul and confessed to God all the sins you have committed for which you are truly repentant?’ I said yes, I was finished. It did fleetingly cross my mind about George and me, but already I was thinking that this was something that was not a sin, and was not wrong, and was beautiful, and some day I would find the words to tell people. So I said nothing more. ‘Suddenly, there was an abrupt drop in the temperature. I could feel it through the screen. His voice came back very low and very cold, and he gruffly repeated, ‘Have you finished?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ ‘You have not!’ he said. I realized in that instant that Father Follen knew who I was, which he was not supposed to—and that George had talked. ‘Are you going to say you are sorry?’ he asked. I wasn’t sorry, and there was nothing for me to confess. There was a moment of strained silence as he waited, then I heard him putting on his vestments. Before I knew what was happening, he reached into my side of the Confessional, grabbed me by the collar and by the back of the belt, and, in front of all those waiting people, marched me to the front of the Cathedral, kicked open the door with his foot, and pushed me out, shouting, ‘Don’t come back until you are ready to say you’re sorry.’ Harry never did. But when, during the Depression, he visited home from College, he sometimes went to St. Gregory’s, not as a Parishioner, but as a Musician, to play an occasional Mass. ‘From the pulpit, Father Fallon would thank me for the music, and then invite me to the Sacristy, where we would finish off the Sacramental wine. Then the old hypocrite would chase me around the table. But I never let him catch me. I was very wise by then.”

“Sometimes the kids from the Filth and Famine League would go hear Harry play the organ for the Los Angeles Lodge of the Order of the Eastern Temple, or O.T.O., [Jesuit Priest, see website for citations] Aleister Crowley’s notorious anti-Christian [pro-Catholic] Spiritual Group. Based on the [Jesuit created and controlled, see my website for citations] Order of the Golden Dawn, a Secret-Society concerned with the use of ritual sex in magic, Crowley’s Society was not so secret and was known to have created homosexual sex-magic rituals. The O.T.O. motto, [Jesuit Casuistry] ‘Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law,’ inspired the name of its mother Church, the Abbey of Thelema, which in Greek means ‘will.’ The original Abbey was in [Roman Catholic, Jesuit controlled] Sicily, but the Los Angeles chapter also called their meeting place Thelema, although the smallish quarters were in the attic of a four-story house in Hollywood. Regina Kahl, with whom Harry had acted, was high priestess of O.T.O., and she hired Harry to play the organ at Services. In keeping with the times, no one was openly gay, but the Lodge was run by a frail man named Wilfred Smith, who often performed ‘Exorcisms’ on attractive young men. Kahl, whom Harry described as ‘the biggest lez you ever saw,’ and two older women known as the Wolfe sisters were Priestesses. The Wolfe sisters wistfully hinted that sex-magic rituals would be nice if enough people ever joined the Los Angeles Temple—but enough never did. When the services were to start, remembered Harry, ‘a gong sounded and we’d get to the Chapel by ladder. The Congregation sat in pews facing a sarcophagus behind a gauze curtain. Regina, in a flowing robe, slit the veil with a sword and out came Wilfred wearing a snake diadem and a red velvet cape velvet cape made from a theater curtain. ‘I am a man among men,’ he would say. Then, taking Regina, who towered above him, he’d say, ‘Come thou virgin, pure and without spot.’ Many visitors had trouble keeping a straight face. Harry mischievously slipped ‘Barnacle Bill the Sailor’ or ‘Yes, We Have No Bananas!’ slowed to dirge tempo, into the contrapuntal themes he was hired to play. Frequently, he dropped into his [non] former Catholic Church to play a Mass earlier in the day just to balance his Sacrilege.”

“The simple fact of being in New York made even everyday events take on a more vivid quality. ‘Every Sunday there was a parade somewhere or other,’ Harry recalled, ‘parades for various Saints of the Catholic Church, for local candidates, for the neighborhood Junior High School. If we wanted to have a parade that was important to the Left, we’d have to check with the Junior High first.’ The Hays frequented parades.”

“John Lyon Burnside III had already met Harry at Gerald Heard’s house … Burnside’s background was respectable; … winding up as a staff Scientist at [Jesuit created and controlled, see website for citations] Lockheed. … Burnside was at once an attentive listener and as discursive as Harry, the perfect partner for Harry’s ongoing dialogues about gays. Though John arrived a nerve-racking three hours late to their first date, they postponed the chef ’s salad Harry had prepared for another five hours, which they spent in bed. They fell for each other at every level, as they found out how much they had in common. Burnside was also a westerner, from Seattle. Both were [non] lapsed Catholics, were close in age (Burnside was forty-seven; Harry fifty-one) and had weathered long Heterosexual marriages.”

“Harry got to know every Indian dance, every festival time, and the best route to every Catholic Cathedral and windowless Church of the Penitente Catholics. [Literally creating and performing the Roman Catholic black-magic Eucharist for his homosexual sex-magic rituals—that is to say—Roman Catholicism.] He baked his own recipe of high nutrition bread for the gay waifs who came for showers, dried apple chips when there was a bumper crop, and made wine from currants, pears and plums.”
—Stuart Timmons (Homosexual Idolater Author of Harry Hay); ‘The Trouble with Harry Hay: Founder of the Modern Gay Movement,’ pp. 24-25, 48, 54-55, 97-98, 134, 245-246, 247, (Boston: 1990) [Emphasis Mine]
His Jesuit mentor was beyond a doubt absolutely successful in his mission commanded to him by his Jesuit Superior.

From a May, 1951 interview with Jesuit Spiritual Coadjutor, Harry Hay; wearing a mask is for homosexual occultists practicing Communism (Jesuit created Ecumenical Liberation Theology)—:
“One masque group was known as the ‘Société Mattachine.’ These Societies, lifelong Secret Fraternities of unmarried townsmen who never performed in public unmasked, were dedicated to going out into the countryside and conducting dances and rituals during the [Roman Catholic] Feast of Fools, at the Vernal Equinox. Sometimes these dance rituals, or masques, were peasant protests against oppression—with the maskers, in the people's name, receiving the brunt of a given lord's vicious retaliation. So we took the name Mattachine because we felt that we 1950s Gays were also a masked people, unknown and anonymous, who might become engaged in morale building and helping ourselves and others, through struggle, to move toward total redress and change.” —Henry Hay (May, 1951)

2020.10.19 07:17 Sikusungred Type my friend

  1. I am 20 years old almost 21, I am male. I am 5'8, I am temperamentally rather acute though when asked to perform manual labour I may come off as obtuse. I think of my self as a generally decent fellow, though I can at times violate that decency and act in indecent ways, I believe that I am a likable person though others have told me that I am the contrary. 2. Now for medical diagnoses I was previously diagnosed with adhd, it was assumed by my physician that I had minor symptoms of bipolar, that I may have autism and that I am prone to narcissistic tendencies. I was recently diagnosed with tmd, I have a jaw issue with puts tensions on my neural networks thus having the effect of frequently impairing my ability to form succinct thoughts.
  2. I was brought up by a devoutly evangelical mother and a catholic grandmother. I was originally put into a private Christian pre-school but I bit a kid for touching one of my toys, this act led to my expulsion from the institution. I lived in a middle class home from the age of 3 to the age of 11, during that period we only moved four times. Following my parents divorce my mother moved us from Anaheim to Lake Elsinore to live with my grandmother and by the time I turned 4 we as a household unit moved to Oceanside. When I was a child my mother organized playdates for me with the neighborhood children, I was highly social and had numerous close friends, namely Chloe, Daniel, John, and Tony. My paternal grandmother forced me to indulge in mathematics as I had a problem focusing on equations from an early age, her efforts led to little. She died when I was 12 years old, her influence on my laugh was mostly moral, at the time she was the one person in my family I actually enjoyed talking to besides my cousins Amy and Kelly. Before she died we built a Lego Taj Mahal and we were engaged in the watching of the clone wars, I remember I rest assured her that the show was getting renewed for another season. My schooling from kindergarten to the 5th grade was relatively uneventful beside the fact that I had a best friend during that time named John, John was a Mormon, and I found that to be supremely interesting. We played fable together and Club Penguin, we also acted out our own Star Wars episodes with our legos. Chloe was a girl that was put forth into a love triangle with both Tony and Myself competing for her affection. She moved before any of us could claim our prize. Tony was mentally unstable to say the least, though I did enjoy playing Luigis mansion at his house. I was happy and unhappy at many points throughout my childhood, I could never pay attention to anything and I was rather poor at expressing my feelings towards people. I had 4 pet tortoises during that time. I am unstable, like a pendulum I swing from one feeling to the next unable to strap down any persistent feeling. This is probably due to my adhd and possible bipolar. This all got worse during my late middle school years so go figure. I'm going to stop this here for the sake of saving time for the next question.
  3. I do not have a job, though I would like to have one, I doubt that the first job I'll get will be a job that I'll enjoy.
  4. I was alone for much of my life but I never felt right by myself. I used to refuse to hang out with people for I was embarrassed by my mothers apartment as my friends were more used to seeing me in a middle class setting, I felt diminished by my poverty. I feel refreshed when I'm around people, I feel inebriated and detached when I'm alone, I hate feeling detached, I feel lifeless when I feel detached.
  5. I hate sports but I also love moving, im fine with playing sports such as soccer and basketball but I can't fathom playing baseball for I have bad shoulder movement. I love watching baseball though. I much prefer over sports to dance and to shadow box.
  6. I am overly curious, I am overly ambitious, I have more ideas that can be reasonably executed. My ideas are insane, I have a solution for every modern social and economic problem but they're bonkers most of the time. I mostly think of social movements and relationship issues between peoples, groups and those I know. I like figuring out how others work.
  7. I want to be in power in fact I feel uncomfortable not being in power, I would be much like a steward directing the best parts of my team together for the completion of the task at hand, so help me God. I am dictatorial but also willing to listen to criticism and advice from others.
  8. I am not coordinated unless a great game is afoot, when I feel enraptured by a feeling my body obeys me, I can move better, think better and position myself better, I am an avid swimmer, honestly I can swim laps around everyone that I personally know, merely because I have the will to do so.
  9. I was artistic, I use to draw, I was always stuck in my journals doodling little sketches of Boba Fett, world leaders and the girls that I was at the time interested in. I was interested for some time in making unique sounds with my voice which I guess is a form of vocal art.
  10. I believe that the past at least for my country was superior in many macrocosmic aspects, but for my life is was a lesser period as I was not fully actualized as a person till well into the 8th grade-early 9th grade. My present is arduous but will improve, and that's where I get to my future which I believe will be fantastic. I reflect on every action I took, am taking, and plan on taking, that's how I deal with my past.
  11. I like to do things for some people but not for most people. I help others because I feel like I am doing it for good reasons, sometimes for their benefit but mostly for mine.
  12. I hate consistency so no.
  13. Efficiency is what I care deeply about, I am not as productive as I'd like to be but I know I have the ability to be quite productive so I hold out hope that I'll get my act together.
  14. I do control others, of course indirectly, I do it through bonds that I formulated with these people and through assuming a dominant role in most of my groupings. I do it because I feel secure and more like myself in power. I don't like other people telling me what I should and shouldn't do and where I should and shouldn't go.
  15. For my hobbies, I read, I walk, play games, eat and argue with people. I don't like people who act smarter than me, I want to dominate people for the sake of security.
  16. I suck in information on the fly, through chaos I learn, calmness breeds nothing, conflict births all, I am a bad diagram learner, I can't process math equations very well and logical fallacies don't necessarily register as easily with me as they do with others. I prefer creativity, the physical senses and memorization. I have never been fond of logic. I am fairly good at strategizing for my assumptions about people and things are generally correct as I analyze peoples habits and conventions for the sake of building of my strategies. I do wing things once in awhile through I admit that winging usual leads to intellectual sputtering and incoherency. I do improvise through my plans whenever they meet a roadblock.
  17. My life is important to my because I am the only life I am truly sure of. The prospects of finding a woman is important to me as well as I would like to share my heart with another and vice verse. I also find my friends to be important as they do make me happy. My future is also important as I would like to make a lasting impact on the world sometime down the road.
  18. My aspirations are to rise to power in some function in this country, I would like have a disposable income, I would like to get married and to have multiple children and I would like to die on Mars.
  19. I am afraid of death because I am not sure of what follows. I am uncomfortable around happy people as I am unhappy myself, and I hate inauthentic people as I want others to be straight with me. Also I hate getting sick, and I hate joint pains for the point that they're painful.
  20. I usual feel a high when I'm honestly angry or when something truly unexpected and wonderful happens to me, for example finding out a woman would like to date me makes me rather euphoric and beating others at a task makes me quite jubilant. Also random occurrences and conflicts make my gears roar into ignition. Usually a high feels like complete mental clarity, its as though im all seeing, all knowing and intellectually and morally perfect. My voice works the way I want it to work and my words fly out at the speed and conscience I would prefer them to.
  21. The lows consist of a feeling of constant numbness and physical and mental torment that usually follows a great defeat or negative assumption about an outcome.
  22. I am quite detached, I don't feel like I'm quite all here in this world, I just noticed today the fine details of my neighbors terrace and just now did I recognize the name of neighbor Maurice. I am aware of some surroundings, I can see things moving but I can't quite make out what those objects are though can detect whether they are harmful to me or not.
  23. When I am alone I usually just put myself into a reverie, talk to myself to keep myself busy, or do the old solitaire dirty dirty. I usually think about love, war, and the future, I reevaluate my life choices and change little details about past experiences to set them right in my head for the sake of longed for completion. Because I feel like there's many things I could have done better in my life, people I rejected who I should have accepted, and things I had the chance to partake in. I have a lot of regrets.
  24. I usually make decisions pretty quick, and I do sometimes change my mind a few hours later.
  25. I process my emotions rather quickly unless the emotional stimuli is traumatizing such as breakups or deaths.
  26. I usually agree with others for the sake of stopping conflict though usually I seek to offend for it fills me with joy to do so, so I seldom agree with others for the sake of maintaining peace, it really depends on whether I think highly of the person.
  27. break rules all the time because I want certain things and I hate social conventions. I believe that most rules or trivial and that they're nonsensical so I break them.
  28. The ideal life is a life with family and friends, a good life where you're not overburdened by work and where everyone you want to be near are near. This is a pious life without degeneracy, this is a life with happiness and low conflict, just general calmness, almost like 50s suburbia. If you've ever seen the Dick Van Dyke show you'll probably catch my drift.

Z. Ruth Croft
Oct. 24, 1930 - Oct. 10, 2020
An amazing woman entered the Kingdom of Heaven Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020. She lived a life that many only aspire to, having loved, comforted and inspired her family and friends.
Z. Ruth Croft was born to Joseph and Lissy (Willis) Worthey Oct. 24, 1930 in Kansas City, Mo. She was the youngest of five children, following Juanita, Marvin, Rosemary, and Lorene. The family moved to Oregon in 1938 and settled near Bridal Veil. Ruth attended school in Portland and graduated from Clinton Kelly Commerce High School in 1948. Ruth's given name was Zelma, something she did not like. She often shared the story of going to school and telling her teachers her name was "Ruth." Her mother was not happy when she learned that Ruth had not told anyone at school her legal name was Zelma. Many of her family knew her as Zelma, or "Aunty Zelma" while other family members had no idea that was her given name. She married Lester "Ray/Bud" Croft in 1950 and they had four children: Judi, Carrie, Merrianne and Skip.
Ruth spent most of her life in the S.W. Portland areas of Garden Home, Multnomah and Tigard. Since 1950, Ruth shared her energy and love of people at Multnomah Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, wedding coordinator, and a board member of Dove Christian Preschool. She was a resident of Walla Walla, Wash., since 2018.
She was the manager of Crescent Grove Cemetery from 1964 until 1994, serving as a board member until June 2014. She established an outdoor Easter Sunrise Service at the cemetery in 2001 which continues today. Ruth was also the first woman to be elected as President of the Oregon Cemetery Association, serving from 1982 – 1984.
In 1978 Ruth was involved with saving the John Tigard House and forming the Tigard Historical Association where she was a charter member. She had a large circle of friends from her involvement with Washington County Extension and a local antique club. The antique club toured the Willamette Valley to expand their knowledge of antiques and local history. She was an avid antique collector and enjoyed quilting and knitting. Ruth also loved spending time gardening, working in her yard, and home canning.
Ruth was very interested in her children's and grandchildren's activities and loved seeing photos and talking on the phone about their most recent sporting event, accomplishment or 4-H/FFA project. Her calendar was always filled with important dates, birthdays and anniversaries. She had a genuine fondness for babies and weddings.
Always a die-hard Blazer fan, Ruth was a season ticket holder for many years. She had an extensive collection of Portland Trailblazer memorabilia, and never missed watching or listening to a Blazer game.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Judi (Steve) Graeper, Carrie Mullen, Merrianne (Brian) Key and Skip (Judi) Croft; and 13 grandchildren, Melyssa Graeper, Emily (Preston) Stanfill, Hillary (Jordan) Beck, John Mullen, Ben (Jenny) Mullen, Thomas Mullen, Hannah (Josh) Figini, William (Jenny) Mullen, Isaiah Mullen, Marcus (Lauren Anne) Key, Alli Key, Courtney Croft and Coleman Croft. 2020.10.16 04:26 kt-joe I need to vent about my ex..

First of all, I must admit to the mistakes that I have made before I blast my ex’s to the internet. I grew up in a Christian household, I stayed celibate until I was married. My husband and I had a great relationship for a long while, but I was very young and we hadn’t been together long before marrying. I had a lot of my own issues with conflict and we practically never fought. It’s not that nothing ever bothered me, I just didn’t know how to voice my thoughts, I struggled with a lot of anxiety and depression and internalization. Obviously, bitterness and resentment began to build up inside me. I was also very disappointed in our sex life, 3.5 yrs of marriage with no orgasms isn’t so fun. Sex wasn’t fun, it always hurt, and I didn’t like having sex with him, and that hurt his feelings. A lot. I felt bad, but I didn’t know how to fix that. There were a lot of things wrong in our relationship, I kept a lot of thoughts and feelings from him and never truly trusted him with all of me. I grew very depressed and I cheated on him with a boy I had always liked from grade school, we had a little bit of history but never dated as kids. After the first night, I don’t think I had ever cried so hard at that point in my life.. after everything was discovered (obviously it would be discovered because I fell into a terribly apparent depression, hated myself, I completely changed with this horrible secret I was trying to keep) the hell that ensued for my ex-husband, his family, my family, our friends, and myself was unbearable. That’s the most selfish and heartless thing I’ve ever done in my life. It seemed everybody knew, and everybody hated me, and I didn’t blame them for it. The only person I had was this man I had cheated with. And I fell hard for him. I struggled with alcoholism for a long while until I finally asked for forgiveness from my ex-husband and his family and learned how to forgive myself. Over the years I trusted this man I had cheated on my husband with with everything. Every thought. Every fear. And he trusted me. I’d never felt so cared for and adored and loved. I’d never had someone I gave myself to so completely and with absolute acceptance. Sex was amazing, I never knew such bliss.
I learn pretty quickly about his porn habits: every day. Well, more than that, really. 3 times a day may be more accurate... so I voice my concern. I meet resistance. I ask, “If we ever live together, would you give up porn then?” He tells me no, but in a gentle-ish way. He has his excuses about men and their nature, a man’s need for variety, but he doesn’t want to cheat on me so he does this. I should have made clear then that wasn’t ok with me, but I was still very quiet and a natural peacemaker.. I just end up hurting and trying to cope with the porn addiction he had. However, the topic of porn came up in our relationship MANY times. It’s not like this was the first time. I found nasty magazines, I asked him to throw them away. He did, but a few years later brings up how difficult that was for him. He follows IG “models” and likes their photos while I’m at the laundry mat. We fight and tell him to delete all those girls, don’t like their photos, IG is social media and everyone can see what he does on there. He agrees, but a few months later starts following a few accounts again.. We have a raging fight about it, and I call him out hard for knowingly crossing a boundary I set. After we live together, he develops a pattern of leaving me in bed on Saturday mornings to go lay in the middle of the living room and jerk off. He didn’t know I knew this for a long time. I held it in my pocket for a while before I threw it in his face when I eventually left..
About a year into us being together, I discover him texting an ex-girlfriend, and the texts were not just friendly. He refers to the blowjobs she used to give him and tells her she should post pics more on IG, he misses her. The first words he hears from me after I discover these text, and I can feel his heart sink as I say the words, are “Who’s Jenna?” He knows that I know what he’s said to her while I was out of state, he figures his best strategy is to fess up and apologize, let me know what scum he is for doing that, nothing like this will ever happen again, because to risk us would be his gravest mistake. I warned that I would leave: “betray me again, I’m gone.” I had these thoughts: I have done worse, I have repented, I have hope in myself that I have changed and will not repeat mistakes, I will not live through that hell again. I can have hope that this man that I love so dearly and whom I know loves me will do the same for me. He sings me to sleep, caressing my face, adoring me with every ounce of his being.
2 yrs jn and we’re living together. Life is beautiful. But suddenly, he keeps staying up till 1 or 2 in the morning. I get suspicious. While he’s napping I check his phone. He’s really good at hiding things at this point: there are no weird apps, no texts, no DMs, no photos. I check the “deleted photos” folder. Bingo. There are photos he’s taken screenshots of men and women with a watermark of some chat room app, and then there is a photo of himself, laying in our bed on my quilt, hard as a rock with my dresser, my mirror, and my scarves in the background hanging on the door with the same chatroom’s watermark on it. Who has looked at this photo? What strangers? Who is looking at what is mine? And who has he been talking to and looking at? I’m boiling. I text the photo to myself, delete the text from his phone, and save the photo to my album. I wake him up from his nap and he smiles real big at me, eyes full of love, says “Hey baby!” in his raspy sleepy voice and tries to enfold me into his arms. I push away, and concern marks his face. I ask, “Why have you been getting in chat rooms?” He holds real still, looks at me, a deer in headlights, he’s searching for what I already know, trying to judge exactly how much I know. He’s quiet for too long. “Say something! Say something to me right now. Answer my question. Why have you been getting in chat rooms?” He struggles, but manages to say, “I haven’t” I storm out of the room. I’ve never known him to lie to me, but he’s lying now, oh god he’s lying now, what else hasn’t he told me? What else has he lied about? He finds me in the laundry room, he starts pleading with me, but I talk over him “Don’t you EVER lie to me! You’ve been in fucking chat rooms every night, and I confront you and you LIE! Don’t you insult me like that, I know what you’ve done! I have a picture of you on my phone!” He is panic stricken and tries to take my phone from me, I shove him away (no amount of violence or physical dominance has ever been in our relationship prior to this), I am kind of frightened at this point, but still have my phone after screaming at him to get off of me and don’t take my phone and I go back to my bedroom to get away from the lying scum I love. He follows me, but softens himself, moves more slowly and more like a wounded animal, he knows how fucked he is, and how badly he’s just acted. It’s time to apologize. Again.
It’s amazing what an apology can do. How someone can build you up so much, and make you feel so loved when they are apologizing. His fate completely in my hands, he begs me to please have mercy. And my love for him is overpowering. I know he wishes he’d never done any of it, if he could take it back he would, I’m worth so much more and now he could lose me. Oh, the fear of losing me! The sweetness and love in him absorbs me... I stay. I forgive. I tell him to do better, do better for me, I tell him that every time he resists a temptation (because we’re human, temptations come) he will be stronger. Do it for me.
Now we’re 3 years in. He goes to a strip club with his boys for a bachelor party. I cry and scream so hard my nose bleeds. My nose gushes and gushes, I can’t make it stop. All I want is him holding me and comforting me, helping me to stop crying. He apologizes again. He says he wishes he never went, it was so uncomfortable, it was such a waste of money for the cover charge, it was awkward and weird. I forgive. Again.
3.5 years in. He’s napping. I’m cleaning. I pull a towel down from a tall dresser that holds our towels and something falls on the floor. I look closely at the wrapper and plastic. It’s a used conform.
I leave the house in a panic. I drive around for about an hour, freaking out. I call my best friend. “Maybe it isn’t his! He hates condoms. So many people have lived in this house before us... I have to ask him and see how he reacts. I’ll know if he’s lying. I know what he’s like when he lies.” I get back home and the sound of the door wakes him up. He comes into the living room to hug me and say hello. Another rejected hug. “What’s that?” I point at the coffee table with the old, used condom on it. He says, “Ew! Where did you find that?!” I ask, “Is it yours?” And he replies nonchalant, “No, a lot of our friends have lived in this house, it’s probably one of theirs. Where did you find it?” “In the bathroom on top of the towel cabinet” I say “It fell down when I was cleaning and pulled a towel down.” I sit in my chair and start to cry, overwhelmed by all the thoughts and feelings I’ve had over the last hour, he leaves me there to cry. A few minutes later I hear him sit down on the couch. I hear paper crumple. I feel that paper hit me. I know inside this crumpled paper is the used condom. What is happening? This is a terrible thing to throw at someone... why would he throw this at me? I hold it in my hand, and let it slip past my fingers and onto the floor. I have no energy to think or feel any different. I just feel overwhelming sadness... I can’t be in this room with him. I go to our room and cover myself in the blankets and sob. He doesn’t come. Some time later, I decide it isn’t right for me to be so sad. I should be angry. So I go fold laundry... angrily. He finds me and asks with bewilderment “Are you mad at me?!” And I spit back “YES! You threw a CONDOM at me! How do you think that makes me feel?! It makes me feel like you’re calling me garbage, cause that’s where you throw used condoms, in the GARBAGE!” And he fired back mockingly “Oh ya, I’m calling the girl I love most in the whoooole world gaarbaage!” And I can NOT believe how badly he is acting, I can not believe he is mocking me for telling him I am mad at him for throwing a used condom at me. So I grab the nearest thing to me that I know won’t hurt him, folded laundry, and I start chucking it at him with as much force as I can muster, screaming and yelling, I don’t remember what I said, I just remember the fury and the hurt and the throwing. He sits on the bathtub and takes it, watches me, sees how angry I am. I leave the room and go sit in the kitchen. He comes in, lays his chin on the table and looks up at me with puppy dog eyes. I feel hatred towards him. I know he’s about to apologize. I’ve already made up my mind that tomorrow, I’m leaving. So I pretend to listen to his apology for now. I don’t tell him he’s forgiven. I just look at him while he whimpers. The next day while he’s at work, I write him a note. I pack a lot of my things. And I leave before he gets back home.
There were many conversations over the next several months, all of him begging for me to come back, him telling me how much better he’s doing, me talking him out of committing suicide, me helping him get his dog out from under the house so he could be taken to the vet when he was very ill (his dog always loved me best, and that hurt him deeply).
2 months ago I started talking to him again with a little more friendliness. He told me he’d given up porn and hadn’t watched it in months, it made him sick now knowing that it contributed to me leaving and porn just brought back to him mind all the fights we had over it. He wanted to give up the things that cost him everything. I was careful when talking to him, I didn’t want to just fall back in. I wanted him to slowly earn my trust again, if he could... I know I’ve only shared the bad things he’s done in this story, but there is so much that is miraculous and lovely about him. I know his every fear and worry. I know him so intimately... I miss his encouragement and his stories. He’s a beautiful person with some terrible flaws (who of us isn’t so flawed?). Over time I soften more. And more. He sends me songs like Sam Cooke’s Come Running Back to You. He sends me pictures of us. He reminds me of all of the deep, intimate memories and promises we’ve made to each other. I finally decide I want to try again, but suddenly he tells me he’s been seeing some other girl for 2 weeks... he says they cook together, they talk all the time, and she’s just very sweet. He says he can’t leave her for me when it could be a really great relationship. But he tells me “Not all hope is lost. How could I ever love someone else as intensely as we loved? Would he be crushed as he was when I left should they break up? Of course not! I just can’t keep doing things that make me feel small.”
So that’s it. That’s the end. He wants me to hold on now, to wait for him, while some other girl sleeps in my bed.
I shed it all.
I am alone. And that is what I need right now.

2020.10.14 22:34 s4nskrit A Tale of Three Cities

CITY OF LONDON, WASHINGTON DC AND VATICAN CITY
World events most of which are ‘engineered’ leave a trail that leads to the architects. We next discover that there are 3 cities on earth that come under no national authority, they have separate laws, they pay no taxes, they have their own police force and even possess their own flag of ‘independence’.
These 3 cities control the economy, military onslaughts and the spiritual beings of those in powers. The 3 cities are actually corporations and they are the City of London, District of Columbia and the Vatican.
Together they control politicians, the courts, educational institutions, food supply, natural resources, foreign policies, economies, media, and the money flow of most nations as well as 80% of the world’s entire wealth.
Their ultimate aim is to build a totalitarian rule on a global scale where people will be divided into rulers and the ruled after they have depopulated the world to numbers they wish to rule over.
What we need to understand is that the world does not work according to what we have been led to believe. We are drowning in misinformation.
At the center of each city state are giant phallic shaped stone monuments called obelisks.
London obelisk (aka Cleopatra’s Needle): Located on the banks of the River Thames, this obelisk was transported to London and erected in 1878 under the reign of Queen Victoria.
The obelisk originally stood in the Egyptian city of On, or Heliopolis (the City of the Sun).
The Knights Templars’ land extended to this area of the Thames, where the Templars had their own docks. Either side of the obelisk is surrounded by a sphinx, more symbolism dating back to the ancient world.
In D.C. the obelisk is known as the Washington monument was dedicated to George Washington by the secretive brotherhood of Freemason Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia in 1848.
They also contributed 22 masonic memorial stones. 250 masonic lodges financed the Washington monument obelisk including the knights templar masonic order.
Vatican obelisk: Located in St. Peter’s Square, was moved from Egypt to its current location, in 1586.
The circle on the ground represents the female vagina, while the obelisk itself is the penis. This is commonly known as occult symbolism.
The Roman Empire prevails through the:
  1. CITY OF LONDON INC
The City of London was formed when the Romans arrived in Great Britain 2000 years ago and started a trading post on the River Thames.
Exactly 1000 years later William the Conqueror (King William III) gave sovereign status to the City of Londoners in 1694 allowing them to continue enjoying separate rights and privileges so long as they recognized him as King.
The Kings that succeeded William however, decided to build a new capital city and named it Westminster. There have been numerous instances of the King and the City’s Mayor at loggerheads with each other.
What is peculiar is that laws passed by the British Parliament does not apply to the City of London.
However the City of London is not an independent nation like the Vatican.
Today the City of London is a one-square mile city. The 2 Londons have separate city halls and elect separate mayors, who collect separate taxes to fund separate police who enforce separate laws.
City of London has its own separate flag and crest while London city does not. The Mayor of the City of London has a fancy title ‘The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of London’ and rides a golden carriage to Guildhall while the Mayor of London wears a suit and takes a bus.
The Mayor of London has no power over the Right Honorable Lord Mayor of London (City of London).
What’s unique is that the City of London is a Corporation and older than the United Kingdom but has a representative in the UK Parliament through a person known as the ‘Remembrancer’ who is present to protect the ‘City’s interests.
The City of London houses
The City of London is controlled by the Bank of England, a private corporation owned by the Rothschild family after Nathan Rothschild crashed the English stock market in 1812 and took control of the Bank of England.
Complete List of BANKS Owned or Controlled by the Rothschild Family
The Queen refers to the City of London Corporation as the ‘Firm’ but it is known as The CROWN (not representing the Royalty of Britain). Buckingham Palace is in London but not in the City of London and the City is not part of England.
City of London directly and indirectly controls all mayors, councils, regional councils, multi-national and trans-national banks, corporations, judicial systems (through Old Bailey, Temple Bar and the Royal Courts of Justice in London), the IMF, World Bank, Vatican Bank (through N. M. Rothschild & Sons London Italian subsidiary Torlonia), European Central Bank, United States Federal Reserve (which is privately owned and secretly controlled by eight British-controlled shareholding banks), the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland (which is also British-controlled and oversees all of the Reserve Banks around the world including our own) and the European Union and the United Nations Organization.
The Crown controls the global financial system and runs the governments of all Commonwealth countries, and many non-Commonwealth ‘Western’ nations as well (like Greece).
The Crown traces back to the Vatican, which is headed by the Pope (who owns American Express).
In essence the City of London Corporation would become the “One World Earth Corporation” and would privately own the world.
  1. Washington DC (District of Colombia)
Washington DC is not part of the USA. District of Columbia is located on 10sq miles of land. DC has its own flag and own independent constitution. This constitution operates under a tyrannical Roman law known as Lex Fori.
DC constitution has nothing to do with the American Constitution. The Act of 1871 passed by Congress created a separate corporation known as THE UNITED STATES & corporate government for the District of Columbia.
Thus DC acts as a Corporation through the Act. The flag of Washington’s District of Columbia has 3 red stars (the 3 stars denoting DC, Vatican City and City of London).
A look at the various Treaties raises the question of whether US remains a British Crown colony.
The basis of this goes back to the first Charter of Virginia in 1606 that granted Britain the right to colonize America and gave the British King/Queen to hold sovereign authority over colonized America and its citizens.
Colonized America was created after stealing America from the Native Indians. If America was colonized with British subjects these people are subjects of the British Government.
To negate this was the Treaty of 1783 declaring independence from Great Britain. However, this Treaty identifies the King/Queen of England as the Prince of the United States. (please refer www.treatyofparis.com)
Nevertheless, according to the Bouviers Law dictionary in ‘monarchicial governments’ a subject owes permanent allegiance to the monarch in which case the British subjects in colonized America owed permanent allegiance to the monarch.
The reverse is applicable under Constitutional law where allegiance is owed to the sovereign and to the laws of a sovereign government and natives are both subjects and citizens.
The issue is if a war was fought in 1781 and America became victor why would Britain need to sign a Treaty in 1783? When US has won a war, America should not require the British monarch to cede land and refer to himself as Prince of the Holy Roman Empire and of the United States?
There is also the issue of the use of the term ‘Esquire’ given that it is a title of nobility again showing allegiance to the Queen/King and when Benjamin Franklin, John Jay Esquire and John Adams signing on behalf of the US use the name ‘Esquire’ it is raising the question of how valid the 1783 Treaty is.
John Jay went on to sign the 1794 Treaty between England and US raising again why 13 years after the Paris Treaty the US needs to sign a Treaty with England if US was really ‘independent’.
What needs to be further investigated is why US still continues to pay tax to the City if it is a free nation?
The 1794 Treaty signed between England and the US was negotiated by John Jay Esquire who negotiated the 1783 Treaty.
The question is why would US need to sign Treaty’s with England 13 years after the Paris Treaty of 1783 declaring US independent? Why would Article 6 and Article 12 continue to dictate terms to an ‘independent’ America?
Further reading of US history would reveal what happened to America when it cancelled the Charter of the First National Bank in 1811 and immediately afterwards 4500 British troops arrived and burnt down the White House, both Houses of Congress, the War Office, the US State Department and Treasury and destroyed the ratification records (signed by 12 US states) of the US Constitution wherein the 13th Amendment was to stop anyone receiving a Title of nobility or honor from serving the US Government.
The 1812 war lasted 3 years and the Bank Charter was re-established in 1816 after the ratification of the Treaty of Ghent in 1815. Note: 13th amendment which was ratified in 1810 no longer appears in current copies of the U.S. constitution.
In 1913 the Federal Reserve was passed by US Congress handing over America’s gold and silver reserves and total control of America’s economy to the Rothschild banksters.
The Federal Reserve is a privately owned banking system that does not belong to America or Americans.
It is no better a time to question whether US is a country or a corporation and the US President and officials at the Congress are working for that Corporation and not for the American people.
It appears that the US Corporation is owned by the same country that owns Canada, Australia and New Zealand whose leaders are all serving the Queen in her Crown Land and US too has been and remains a crown colony that belong to the Empire of the 3 City States – City of London, Vatican City and Washington DC.
The US president is nothing more than a figurehead for the central bankers and the transnational corporations — both of which are controlled by High Ecclesiastic Freemasonry from the City of London the home of the global financial system.
  1. Vatican City
The Vatican City is not part of Italy or Rome. The Vatican is the last true remnant of the Roman Empire. The State of Israel is also said to be a Roman outpost.
The Vatican’s wealth includes investments with the Rothschilds in Britain, France and US and with oil and weapons corporations as well.
The Vatican’s billions are said to be in Rothschild controlled ‘Bank of England’ and US Federal Reserve Bank.
The money possessed by the Vatican is more than banks, corporations or even some Governments and questions why the wealth is not used to elevate at least the Christian poor when it preaches about giving?
Vatican wealth has been accumulated over the centuries by taxing indulgences, some Popes have sold tickets to heaven. Today, they are harvesting souls in Asia as a 3rd millennium goal.
Together the 3 Cities have under their wing various societies and groups placed globally with their own so that no one contests their global plan and those that do… well all the assassinations will explain what happens.
The Fabian Society is one such entity which written in 1887 is a mixture of fascism, Nazism, Marxism and communism. It is not hard to now imagine that all these ‘ideologies’ would have also been engineered by the same people.
It should come as no surprise then to discover that the Fabian Society is accredited with creating Communist China, Fascism in Italy and Germany and Socialism globally as well.
How far people have been fooled and also explains the role played by the Fabian Society in formulating policies for the decolonized British Empire.
It would also mean that quite a number of British educated natives given the mantle of leading the newly independent nations would have also been members of the Fabian society.
The communist takeover of Russia too is said to be the work of the British Fabian Society financed by the City of London banking families.
A closer look at entities like the Bank Of International Settlements (BIS), International Monetary Fund(IMF), Club Of Rome, The Committee Of 300, the Central ‘Intelligence’ Agency (CIA), the Council On Foreign Relations, The Tri-Lateral Commission, The Bilderberg Groups, the ‘Federal’ Reserve System, the Internal Revenue Service(s), Goldman Sachs, Israel and the Israeli lobby, the Vatican, the City of London, Brussels, the United Nations, the Israeli Mossad, and Associated Press (AP) will reveal that they are all part of the Fabian Society which also controls the European Union.
A noteworthy quote is that of Australian Senator Chris Schacht who said in 2001 “You probably were not aware that us Fabians have taken over the CIA, KGB, M15, ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organization), IMF, the World Bank and many other organizations.”
From all this we should realize that NOTHING HAPPENS IN ISOLATION. Therefore, every event however small is engineered and orchestrated by a handful of people who control the world and what goes on in the world.
Together, they have been responsible for:
  1. Global Warming/Climate change – by creating an environmental catastrophe and winning the Nobel Prize, they have created a public awareness for a ‘global government’ that gives them the right to take action over national governments.
Known as UN Agenda 21 a closer look at its clauses will reveal how people will need to get permission for everything they do – in other words it is being used to control people.
  1. Federal Banking system – The Fabian Society created the Federal Reserve Act in 1913 handing over the US economy to a cartel of international financiers.
  2. Big Pharma – is responsible for drugging the Third World.
  3. System of local government – promoting devolution and new concept of regional councils in a bid to increase a revenue generating system. It is within an overall plan to abolish independent sovereign national governments.
Britain is divided in 9 separate regions of the EU. The British will be shocked to discover that EU laws take precedence over British laws and if they have doubts they need to ask why the Queen and British PMs have signed Treaties handing over power.
  1. Abolition of property rights – in 1974 at the Habitat Conference private property was identified as a threat to peace and equality of the environment.
Using ‘environmentalism’ as a ploy the quest was to take over earth’s resources and place it under a central authority (UN) and issue licenses for payment. Who owns the UN…the same banking families.
In 1987 the World Wilderness Congress was held organized by the Rothschild’s World Conservation Bank which was set up the same year.
The World Bank is likely to be replaced by the World Conservation Bank – the aim is to break down national banks and assets will also be diverted to the new bank which is why there is an aim to merge currencies into 2 or 3 major currency groups and replace them with a new electronic currency which is said to be called the ‘earth dollar’.
New Zealand has apparently transferred over 34% of its land area into UN Heritage Areas and Conservation Parks and these will all be owned by the same banking families.
In 1992 the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Brazil was chaired by Mikhail Gorbachev responsible for dividing the Soviet Union and Maurice Strong, the Rothschild London agent.
The topic was Agenda 21 which gave man rights superior to animals, fish, plants, trees and forests.
  1. The Patriots Act, the Human Rights Bill, the European Union Constitution, the Security and Prosperity Partnership are all being manipulated to place power in the control of a few hands.
Their plans are plotted annually through the Bilderberg Group and their agents run numerous think tanks that steer Government policy which are funded by the banksters who in real terms run the world.
Thus the 13 banking families that run the world control the central banks of the world that print money, give loans on interest and explains how national debt never decreases.
Economic crises, oil crisis (simply to increase prices), Arab Springs are all manufactured as are wars. There is a saying that all wars and bankers wars. The danger is when it comes to food as the control is being placed under Monsanto and GMOs.
Monsanto is the same company that introduced Agent Orange therefore it is worthwhile reading UN’s Codex Alimentarius and the impeding dangers.

2020.10.14 00:41 NovaThatGuy Seriously bad situation between myself (Male 18) and my closest friend (Male 18) and my ex (Female 19), I need serious advice here... Please

Ok so this is a really long story but when I say the advice you give here could save a life I am serious, this has been one of the darkest times in my life and I've already been through some pretty bad shit in my life, definitely a hell of a lot more than any other 18 year old I know. So please if you have the time to read this, your help would be incredible and if this isn't the right place to be talking about this kinda stuff then please let me know so I can relocate this (sorry I don't use Reddit much so I'm kinda not sure where to go for some things)
Ok so I dated this girl for 10 months, we went through our senior year of high school together, it was quite literally a perfect high school relationship, we matched beyond well for any relationship you should have at that age, we were happy together and were planning on having our first times together on our anniversary since we would long since be adults and we'd finally be able to do a lot of the stuff we wanted to go out and do together. She came from an religious extremist Christian household with an extremely abusive grandmother being the adult of the house, as her parents were just complete scumbags who did a lot of horrible things and weren't really allowed to be around her or her two adopted brothers. Because of this dating was very hard to do, we really only got to see each other at school and we used an after school event or an event with another friend of hers faking hanging out with her as a cover for us to go on a date, as our only ways to actually go on dates together but they always went well. This was both of ours first serious relationship, so we were kinda new to the whole thing but were doing really well despite that. Eventually Covid hit the world and the last quarter of our Senior year was gone and we wouldn't be able to see each other for a long time, despite this we held out and did video calls whenever she could sneak one past her grandmother and we'd talk pretty much every night and could text all day. We were still planning more and more stuff to do together once she moved out including an actual plan for the whole first time together thing. But after I came back from visiting family I came home to my parents saying we were moving and I had to help move not just our house but also my grandmother's house since we were merging all of our expendable funds to buy a super nice house only 10 minutes away. By this point my ex had gotten a job as an assistant manager at the local Little Creasers and would ask me everyday to go to her work to see her but I couldn't because I was literally working all day long and was exhausted and still couldn't drive because I just never cared about getting a license. Suddenly she asks to have a break from each other and I took that as her breaking up with me, a couple of days later I asked if she thought there was even hope of her coming back so I could know if I should start moving on or hold out a bit longer and she told me that we should breakup. We ended at that point on good terms, but suddenly she asked to be friends with benefits, which shocked me as she had always been a very unsexual person who may joke about sexual stuff but never really wanted to do much and was only interested in doing while with me because she loved me and wanted to make me happy by doing it. Well things escalated over the coming days and we stopped talking after she basically told me how she wanted to have sex with tons of people and go out and do all sorts of things and I asked her to specifically not get with my closest friend since I knew they were best friends and had always been close, and I was scared she'd get with him, she said that because I said that I was controlling and a bad person for trying to restrict her when I only asked her to do that because I couldn't handle it and even explained that it would devastate me and that I'd appreciate if she'd wait if she was gonna do it with him so I could take that kinda news well.
So a few weeks pass by I don't hear from her for a while and I ended up making friends with a girl I knew from back when I ran the Gaming Club at my school (also I founded that club and it is still precious to me even after I graduated as I ran it without official school support and we became the 2nd biggest club at our school) she happened to be the new Vice President of the club and wanted to help me get over the breakup, we got along really well but I purposefully went for the friendzone since I didn't want anything anytime soon and she was still a Senior since she was 1 year younger than me. We hung out a lot and even ended up making another new friend along the time. Well one day my ex messaged me and we got to talking and I was still a mess as it had really only been like 2 weeks or something at that point and I was still holding out hope for getting back together because she kept saying we might. That ended when she thought I was acting too friendly or something then cut me off, but before she did that she told me she had made a friend with benefit but wasn't doing anything sexual yet, I don't know why she told me that but she did and I asked about joining because of course I did and she said basically I specifically wasn't allowed to join.
A week later I end up in contact with my ex yet again but this time I choose to act aggressive towards her and try to act like I'm angry but willing to talk, because I was afraid she'd leave again, well she told me about her having had sex and bragged about her sexual exploits and I tried to act like its ok and that I was happy for her, during this same time my friend who was a girl and the current VP of my old club started dating my closest friend which surprised me since she would always talk negatively about him and they had dated in the past and it didn't work out. Suddenly she and my closest friend started telling me to block me ex and leave and do all that kinda stuff and I was forced to say why I was acting so aggressive (which was more of a passive aggressive than anything else) and she sill blocked me.
Fast forward 2 weeks, my ex had turned 19 and on her 19th birthday her grandmother kicked her to the streets and left her to die, she ended up moving in with my friend who is the VP of the club, and was staying without rent or anything. Well somehow we ended up talking yet again and she started talking about something really weird one night. I had asked some questions about things I was confused about and she said she was cool with answering them since at that point I thought I was over her, well one thing led to another and suddenly she is trying to test me to see if I'm going to be able to handle something. She told me how my pride would get in the way and that I'm too weak to understand and somehow I convinced her to just tell me what it was... she told me she had been in a Polyamorous relationship with my closest friend and the girl I was friends with who was the current VP of the club. She told me that if I told anyone they'd kill me and then she bragged in detail about her sex life telling me all sorts of things I didn't want to know about my friends. I said I wanted to tell them I knew so this whole thing would be known to them and she went on about how they would never believe me and would turn against me and nobody trusts or likes me. At this point I finally processed everything and realized that for the last month and a half I had been lied to by all of them, I trusted them all and they all lied to me. Then because I was in a weak emotional state she managed to convince me to try and join their relationship, I was against joining for a while but she did convince me to at least try. She told me how she'd have my back and make sure I got in and just said a lot of lies. I also found out she had gotten with my closest friend 2 days after breaking up with me after I had specifically asked her not to and had made my closest friend promise and swear and oath to not get into a relationship with her or have a sexual relationship with her. I also found out they had sex after less than a week of dating. This destroyed me as I had dated her for 10 months and thought I knew her well and everything but suddenly she has a completely different personality that none of them realized was different as she now went on about how she loved sexual stuff and wanted to do all sorts of things. Hearing this from my ex who I honestly somehow still loved deep down was devastating as I still wanted to be with her. I spent the rest of the night being suicidal because it was too much for me to handle but my ex was in a call with me the whole night going on about how its all her fault and she didn't mean to hurt me which I guess I thought was true since I always knew she was kinda weird about things and especially didn't understand emotions well at all and would regularly make mistakes with reading emotions. The next morning I honestly thought I was gonna kill all of them since we were all getting together and none of them outside of my ex knew that I knew. Luckily I calmed myself down and went with the whole day. They were extremely insensitive making out right in front of me, making sexual jokes about stuff they've done right in front of me, and doing things that I couldn't participate right in front of me where I had to just stand there and watch. I told them I knew as soon as I had gotten in the car with them that day but right before that my ex sent me a message and basically went back on everything about helping me and doing stuff to help me join, so I thought I had to do it all by myself since I was just so desperate to be happy again. I actually did begin to like the idea of joining by the end of the day and was really hoping I could join but it also happens that throughout that day I thought that my friend had committed suicide and it was my fault for not helping him (that happened 7 times that day) so I was barely holding myself together. The next morning my ex tells me that they decided on not letting me join and she says it in the coldest most cruel way possible. I snap and lash out at everyone I tell them everything about how wronged I felt and how I was gonna kill myself and I was gonna leave and never speak to them again. I eventually calmed down after my closest friend and the VP friend came over to my house to alert my parents that I was seeming suicidal but luckily they weren't home so I defused the situation and calmed down. I ended up making up with all of them besides my ex who was acting hyper aggressive towards me. That night when they were gonna revote after I had cleared up the issue they said was the reason I couldn't join my ex and the VP friend joined a call with me... what happened next may not be something anyone wants to see... they said so many horrible things and did so many just evil things that I snapped, and I attempted to kill myself, I didn't even try to stop it, they heard me choking to death and called my parents. But since the attempt failed I had put everything away and just lied down to get some sleep, then I suddenly had my parents come in and I got dragged to a mental hospital in the middle of the night.

I wont go into detail about the mental asylum but I got out very fast for attempted suicide, and was out within 5 days which is crazy considering attempted suicide usually requires 14 days before you can be released. The doctors concluded that there was nothing wrong with me mentally and that I had just been pushed too far, but everyday that week I called the VP friend and told her about what my therapist thought I should do since my problem was external and was them. On one of the last days she told me how I'm such a horrible person and she'd never want to be friends with someone who tried to make them change anything about what was going on even if it helped me when I needed support and help the most.

I came out of that place a mess, I was drugged up on antidepressant and was overall not doing well. But the worst thing possible happened things got worse with all of them when I tried to ask about having a serious conversation to discuss what has happened and so they could know my perspective. At this point my closest friend owned up to doing everything that he did wrong, and was actively trying to make it up to me and since we had been close friends since we were little kids and were more like brothers than friends and this was the first time he had ever done something to truly wrong me outside of normal mistakes everyone makes. He still stayed with my ex despite my protests. I ended up with every possible side effect (well almost every single side effect) from the antidepressant including almost every life threatening side effect. So my depression and suicidal thoughts and tendencies sky rocketed, I had no control over my emotions, would constantly be fighting urges to hurt myself, and was constantly doing horribly. I had nightmares every single night, and when I'd lie in bed I'd just hear things (no voices, just scary noises and odd stuff), and I'd have severe tremors in my neck, not to mention I had developed insomnia. Best of all, the first side effect I got was an absurd increase in sex drive and being constantly aroused with no way to deal with it, its kinda like a cruel joke to be honest that of all side effects to start with that's what I got. I was in daily therapy that lasted half the day everyday during this time (and still am) and when taking my daily test to gauge my depression I almost always rated as the most severe depression you could possibly have.

Eventually we had the serious conversation and I had already had it with my closest friend and he was still trying to make it up to me, but it resulted in the VP friend lashing out at me everyday and eventually blocking me. From there my ex eventually stopped speaking to me until I eventually forced her to speak to me again through my closest friend, which helped for a little while but didn't get far before without reason this time she stopped speaking to me again. I should mention that before the whole not speaking to me thing but after the serious conversation, my ex "accidentally" forced me and my closest friend to have to say goodbye forever to each other which was an extremely emotional time since neither of us wanted to and we were like family to each other. The next day I somehow managed to reverse all of that and it continued from there.

This brings us to now, I'm quickly gaining hatred for all three of them, my depression has calmed down and essentially every single side effect is gone. I've tried so much to maintain a friendship here, but I'm just getting hurt so much nonstop, hell I even ended up with PTSD from this and have triggers that cause flashbacks so bad that one time I almost got hospitalized. Nobody outside of the closest friend is even trying and now I'm basically wanting nothing more than revenge for everything they did to me, because I just kept forgiving them and they just kept hurting me. Anytime I try to do anything to help myself in the situation my ex or either my closest friend or the VP friend lash out at me but usually its the ex. And if I just keep just dealing with it I'm going to snap and lash out at them all and either only make things worse or I'll go out for revenege and will probably ruin their lives since well honestly with the amount of bad shit they do I could easily do so, but I want to avoid doing that because I like to try and be a good person whenever I can. Leaving them would require me to cut off contact with a majority of my friends since I'd have to get everything out of my mind to try and forget. And honestly I don't know what to do anymore, I want to keep my closest friend but I also don't, I hate all of them but also want to tolerate my closest friend, I want to leave but I also don't. I don't know what to do in this situation because seemingly no matter what I do it ends badly and I just want them to stop hurting me and hopefully I'd like to repair my friendship with my closest friend but that's hard when none of them even remotely understand my perspective and think I overreacted to everything when I really didn't. I've owned up to the bad I've done to them during this whole time but they never owned up to everything they did.

Oh and turns out my ex was lying to me about so much this entire time and was even lying to me about things when we dated, all so she could apparently keep me happy and avoid conflict. So yeah I can't even trust anything she says and am haunted by the past because of all the things they did to me. This has been a simplified version of the story but it hits essentially everything that needed to be hit. What should I do? Is there a way to fix this or should I leave? I don't know what to do because this could destroy almost all of my relationships. I'm just afraid I'll not be able to handle the constant pain anymore and will end up attempting again, and I think the only thing I can do is resolve this situation.

Again if this isn't the right place for this please let me know where I can make this so I can get advice in the proper place on the site.

2020.10.11 21:23 MrCoolAmerican [REQUEST] What’s my ideology?

I have some general ideas but I’m not 100% sure. Here’s my Sapply results, but I’ll go into more detail below.
I believe very strongly in the principles of democracy and self-determination. I don’t think any state’s existence can be justified without the consent of the governed. I like Marx the way Gandhi liked Christ; the core is much more interesting than the followers and the legacy. I think historical materialism and dialectics, in particular, are marvelous tools for understanding history — the way that opposite forces struggle and create something new and the key role that material conditions play in people’s ideology and development seem self-evident to me. I don’t identify as a Communist or even a proper Marxist, but I do take him as an influence. He nailed it for the mid-19th century, but a lot has changed since then, and I’m not on the Lenin train.
In terms of economics, then, I’m very pro-worker. I think financialization of markets has been totally ruinous. I’m critical of capitalism, but I don’t have anything better to replace it with — I do think we need more unionization and workplace democracy in order to level the playing field. I think that Marx’s formulation of exploitation is a little out of date but I certainly think that the rich are constantly fucking over the poor. I think markets are important for resource allocations and price controls, but they need worker protections to keep from becoming oligarchic. I don’t believe in a “free market” — the legal grounding that protects such a thing (recognition of property and contract rights, say, or the illegality of murder and theft) are regulations; it’s a matter of deciding what regulations to keep and why. I don’t believe that a competitive fair free market exists in a state of nature; I think it needs designing, defending, and constant updating. To that end, in terms of proper policy, I think the US government should break up and regulate the tech monopolies, I think we should have a wealth tax, and I think we should have an America First trade policy. I’m an economic populist, I suppose. I think our welfare system could be more robust; you could replace the whole thing with single-payer and a UBI and we’d be better off for it.
Foreign-policy-wise, I don’t like interventions. I’m not a strict isolationist; I think we should have friendly diplomatic and economic relations with as many other countries as we can. We should not be the policeman of the world; doing so is a major reason we get targeted. I agree with the heterodox right-left anti-war coalition that the War on Terror and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been horrific failures, maybe even criminal ones, and most US presidents of the modern era are, in my opinion, war criminals. I’m not a huge Pat Buchanan fan, but the title of his book A Republic, Not an Empire resonates with me. That’s what I want.
I’m not a fan of China but I don’t want a new Cold War with them either. I think Evo Morales was the rightful president of Bolivia and his ouster was an OAS coup. I don’t have much of an issue with Castro‘s Cuba — they did some things I wouldn’t but I can’t blame them for dealing with the longest trade embargo in modern history, from us. We should normalize relations immediately, no more Cold War red scare bullshit. I think the DPRK is awful but I don’t think we should be saber-rattling with them; I’m glad Trump met with Kim, even if that didn’t amount to much. Brexit seems like an obvious mistake and I think they should’ve had a second referendum, but that’s not really my business I guess. I’m no fan of Russia or Putin but I don’t go in for Russiagate hysteria; as far as I can tell, what Putin did is par for the course in major power elections. We did a lot more to install Yeltsin in the 90s, I’ll tell you that much.
Socially I’m pretty laissez-faire. I’m not into the culture war stuff; I don’t like political correctness or identity politics any more than I like the religious right or the right-wing grifters that profit off the conflict (someone like Steven Crowder, for instance). I do think families and communities are important; I was struck by Robert Putnam’s work, Bowling Alone in particular, and I think alienation and atomization are maybe the key diseases of our society today. That having been said, I don’t really care what you actually do as long as you don’t hurt anybody. Do drugs, buy a gun, eat ass, whatever, just don’t be a dick about it.
I’m not religious, but I’m from a mixed Protestant and Catholic background and I respect the practice of all faiths. Religious freedom is important, just don’t legislate from it, whether it’s Christian theocracy or sharia law.
I have, I suppose, a mildly conspiratorial worldview. I think there are shadowy organizations of the global elite, I just think it’s the very rich and powerful engage in open class solidarity, not pedophile vampires or whatever. “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it,” like George Carlin said. I think QAnon is absolute bullshit — I actually think it’s a Roger Stone op gone totally out of hand. Now, the JFK assassination? That’s a juicier one. I basically agree with the perspective of Carl Oglesby’s The Yankee and Cowboy War, that the period from JFK to Watergate was an intra-elite civil war that ended with the full embrace of neoliberal finance capital and more or less the death of American democracy.
In general, I feel that a lot of problems we have come from half-measures. I’m almost “centrist by means of being pan-radical” in this way. Like, I support a single-payer healthcare system, but I also think a fully deregulated healthcare system would probably work better than what we have. I’m anti-war, but I think if we’re gonna go to war we should go all in and go to win. I think a lot of our problems come from over-compromise and cold feet. Shit or get off the pot.
I’m broadly supportive of Black Lives Matter, certainly more so than I am of the police, although I’m skeptical of defunding and I don’t think all cops are bastards. Like I mentioned earlier, I don’t like identity politics, but I do think America’s never really grappled with our racist past, and I think we should, both in how we treated black Americans and indigenous Americans. I don’t think it’s unpatriotic to acknowledge our flaws and mistakes.
I identify as, maybe, a kind of liberal nationalist, in the Michael Lind, Next American Nation sense. I do specifically love America; I think it’s a wonderful, very special place, and I think we have a distinctly North American culture that leaves us with more in common with Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean than with Europe or Asia; I would increase cooperation between these four regions. My ancestors fought to found it and I’m quite invested in its destiny, to paraphrase Gore Vidal. I think white nationalism and crude anti-immigrant nationalism are both vile and un-American; we should be an open, welcoming place. We’re the city on the hill! I do think we need major immigration reform, and I wouldn’t mind switching to a more Canadian-style points-based system; as long as there is global poverty and crime, and an easily mobile world population, we can’t have fully open borders, as much as I don’t hate the idea in theory. Reihan Salam wrote a book called Melting Pot or Civil War? that I was very affected by, about how to fix our immigration system by restricting some access and strategically offshoring certain sectors and retirement options (strategically being key, here; exporting certain workplaces instead of importing a second-class migrant citizenry, not letting corporations run wild and destroy jobs).
I’m sure I left some things out, but those are the broad strokes. What would you call my ideology?

2020.10.11 13:49 Chemical_Toe6552 My father recently completed suicide on his second attempt. He was disabled. I feel terrible for leaving him.My NMother manipulated him to a tee. I want his stuff like golf clubs, chess set. Is it worth pushing to get these things, as my NMother is withholding all of it unless I break NC

Hey guys, first time poster but I can’t possibly say how much all of your individual situations made me feel normal. My narcissistic mother has always been unjustifiable in anger, control, jealousy. I need to say this so that people don’t feel alone. I need to tell this story so that i can release my own feelings without her permission or feeling guilt from her or what she would think.
I grew up with thinking everyone including close family had issues and they were all gossips, prideful or crazy. My mother only ever kept friends with people for a maximum period of 5 years.
I am now 27 and in the last 6 years I found out that I wasn’t the problem anymore.
My Nmom upon dating my first girlfriend, told me I either stop dating her or move out because “she’s damaged goods” as she had multiple tattoos. My mother wasn’t at our wedding or my only sisters, because everyone there didn’t like her and she said some things about my wife and sister that a mother should never say so I didn’t invite her, she’s Christian and tried to stop my pastor from marrying us because of the parents not apporving and it’s “against god”. I never knew if my dad fully knew the things she said.
Anyway she’s a piece of work....
This may escalate quickly but I’m writing this only 4 weeks out from my father committing suicide. He tried 2 years ago after my mother had an argument with him over personal issues and he said he was “feeling like it was never gonna end and he might as well kill himself and she said “well, go on” and then he did and woke up and was paralysed after the incident of him driving his car into a pillar at over 200km/hr.. He remained in a wheel chair and after I fought very hard to have a relationship with just my father in hospital and through messenger. He couldn’t be left alone as he was her enabler. She hacked into his chat, manipulated him again and used all the personal stuff that I’d told him against me.
As a kid my father said things like “that’s just how your mother is”. “It’s just your mum” “harden up kiddo”.
After his first attempt he said things coming out of the coma in hospital like “I’ll never let her take my kids again” “when I get out, things are going to change kids. I love you so much”... nothing happened. He realised he was under her full control and hew couldn’t walk now to escape.
In the end he felt alone 2 years later after us kids had blocked their calls consistently, sent back “gifts” and asked for a mediation, he was manipulated and lonely. She refused to acknowledge the first attempt as a suicide and told us to “keep family business to ourselves” but everyone around us knew. Claiming it was an accident.
The funeral was all about her, her fake friends for the last 2 years cried for her being a widow. In her eulogy she brought up past matters and offences and made it all about how “they were left alone and they loved each other and it was just the two of them. She even said in the eulogy she made someone else read “his father and mother never loved him”, as though they weren’t watching the funeral through Skype because of COVID19. She is the most controlling, hateful, bitter person I have ever met. My mind is swaying between pity and hate. The fact is I was constantly swapped between my sister as scapegoat and golden child. As a child I used to wonder why she hit me, was it because my hair was combed a certain way? My room not tidy enough? Did I speak disrespectfully to her? We’re my grades not good enough? Did I eat too much food?.
I constantly wanted to run away. I used to jump off cliffs into water for a feeling of freedom and anxiety relief with friends or push the limits and things I could do. Skate massive hills etc and I’ve never lived up to her standard.
The whole point of this post is, THANKYOU and I need to have a question answered.
The last thing I want is my dads chess set and golf clubs. She won’t let me have it as I just “want to profit from his death and didn’t care the last 2 years he was alive” “I’m childish” because I’m keeping boundaries. “I’m mr hotshot” because I have a mortgage and a wonderful life outside of her control.
The question is. Do I pursue getting abused this last time to have keepsakes of my passed father or do I let it go and give her one last “f#%k you, I don’t need anything from you”. I’m torn.
Thanks for sharing everyone and you helped me expect the disappointment I had at my fathers funeral and helped me set healthy boundaries in place I over the last few years. Thankyou again. Without this forum I wouldn’t of found my issue was actually my NMother and it’s a common thing.

2020.10.10 14:31 trifletruffles Ladislado Ureste-died after being brutally beaten in an attack on April 22, 1953 in San Antonio Texas-Closed Case Under the Civil Rights Division Emmett Till Act

Around 10:30 p.m. on April 22, 1953, Ladislado Ureste, a 47 year old Hispanic night watchman for a plumbing company in San Antonio, Texas, knocked frantically on [name redacted]'s door. Upon hearing Ladislado yelling "let me in," [name redacted] immediately opened the door and saw that Ladislado's face and arms were bloody and he was covered with dirt. Ladislado stated that he thought "union men" had beaten him; he described the "union men" as two white men who beat him with long iron chains. He did not recognize the two men. Ladislado first asked [name redacted] to call his job to tell them he was quitting because he was afraid to continue working for the plumbing company; he then asked [name redacted] to call the police.
San Antonio police arrived and Ladislado described how he was attacked while working on a pump in a remote section of Concepcion Park. He fought off his attackers by using his flashlight as a club. Ladislado was then brought to the hospital by an ambulance who noted he had a fractured skull and numerous other injuries. Ladislado died five days later following surgery for a brain hemorrhage.
Investigators learned that Ladislado had cashed a paycheck for $200 earlier that day. Searching the park where Ladislado was beaten, they found his bloody sock, shoe, watch, flashlight and an unopened pocket knife but no cash. They also found a cap and a pack of Philip Morris cigarettes which did not belong to Ladislado. Investigators then interviewed Ladislado's foreman and other employees who all described him as a good worker.
It was hard to piece together the information in the closing memorandum regarding the San Antonio police investigation due to the number of redactions. What I surmised was that San Antonio police interviewed [name redacted No. 2] who described how a union agent named [redacted] went to one of Ladislado's coworkers, perhaps a foreman [name redacted no. 3], and asked him why they "didn’t let a good operator work the machine.” The union agent then left but came back the next day with two other men; this was on the same day that Ladislado was attacked. It appears one of the redacted parties was also questioned about the type of cap he wore but a footnote to the memorandum noted that the cap described does not match the cap found where Ladislado was beaten. The investigation did not identify any suspects.
Since the paragraph in the closing memorandum describing the investigation was heavily redacted and hard to follow, I searched newspapers and found an article from the April 28, 1953 edition of the Lubbock Avalanche which described how Ladislado was beaten with a chain. The day before he was beaten, Ladislado was involved in a violent argument with plumbers working on a Concepcion Park pipeline laying job. The argument was regarding union plumbers refusing to work with a non-Union African-American ditch digger in the park.
2009 investigation:
The FBI began investigating Ladislado's murder in 2009 pursuant to the Department of Justice's Cold Case Initiative instituted under the Emmett Till Unsolved Civil Rights Crime Act. As part of its investigation, the FBI looked at a contemporaneous newspaper article and records from the Homicide Unit of the San Antonio Police Department. The FBI, seeking to interview the police officials quoted in the article, determined that they had since died. I am not sure which news article they found but it does not appear to be the one linked below as there are no interviews in the article. The FBI also looked for records from the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety but the agencies were not able to provide any records.
The FBI also interviewed some of Ladislado's family members and friends. They did not provide any first-hand information but stated the general consensus among family and friends that either union members beat Ladislado in a labor dispute or that he was robbed for the cash from his paycheck that day.
As the FBI was not able to develop any new leads, the Department of Justice closed the case. The Department noted that even if the statute of limitations for prosecution under federal criminal civil rights crimes was met, Ladislado's murder could not be prosecuted under criminal civil rights statutes as there is no proof that Ladislado was assaulted because of "his race or nationality and because he was exercising a federally-protected right such as his right to employment." Though Ladislado identified the men who beat him as white, he "did not report that they used any language that would indicate he was targeted because he was Hispanic."
Ladislado's murder remains unsolved.

I came across the Department of Justice’s cold case initiative (Emmett Till Civil Rights Act) while reading an article discussing journalists’ efforts to install a billboard on an Arkansas highway aimed at solving the 1954 lynching of Isadore Banks. The Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice launched a website (linked above) to make information about the department’s investigation of cold cases from the Civil Rights Era more accessible to the public. As a result of the initiative, the Department of Justice has prosecuted and convicted Edgar Ray Killen for the 1964 murders of three civil rights workers in Philadelphia, Mississippi (the "Mississippi Burning" case); he is the eighth defendant convicted. The Department has also been able to charge and convict perpetrators of the 1963 Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama and they secured a life sentence for James Ford Seale for the kidnapping and murder of two teenagers in Franklin County, Mississippi in 1964.
Unfortunately, many cases which were submitted to the Department of Justice remain unsolved due to the passage of time resulting in evidentiary and legal barriers. In each case that is not prosecutable, the Department of Justice wrote a closing memorandum explaining the investigative steps taken and the basis for their conclusion. To date, the Department of Justice has uploaded 115 closing memos. I hope to be able to post on all of the closed cases as I share in the belief with the Department of Justice that “these stories should be told [as] there is value in a public reckoning with the history of racial violence and the complicity of government officials.”

2020.10.06 22:45 PHNX_Arcanus WAYRStats September 2020

What a month! Put a good chunk of work into things this month, as mentioned last time one thing I wanted to really work on was ease of formatting and posting - it does still take a lil bit to copy everything over but 90% of the formatting is handled for me, so the majority of my time spent now was on filling in descriptions like these. Aight, take a gander, there's some cool new stuff this time.

WAYRStats Contest Winner

Let’s do the important part first: the contest! If you posted three separate times this month in any of the WAYR threads, your name made it to this list, and thus you are eligible for the contest.
And the qualifying winners for the Aug WAYR contest are:

SailorKapibara did the honors this time, and our winner for this month is alwayslonesome! Congratulations! For your choice of prizes you will have access to:
  • A custom text flair on old.reddit
  • A custom character flair on old.reddit
  • Your choice of the sidebar recommendation (new and old)
Over time we’re hoping this list of prizes can expand, especially to include VNs themselves; for now, while this whole thing is just starting out, it’ll be a smaller list.

Between the new sorting type for the treads and the soon to be implemented weekly megathread, this system came to mind and I really like how it came out. The Party goers club essentially tracks the number of days your posts have seen the light of day, by subtracting the number of days between the thread and your post’s creation date from 7. I may omit users who have perfect scores as with this you can see a 7-way tie for first this month. Format is [days of exposure - number of posts]

Conclusions

Huge updates this month, very very happy with the improvements and additions. Now that my output properly formats indents, bullet points, code blocks, bolded text, full pastebin output (some are omitted because the module is still in testing and the website has a 24 hour limit on new pastes, they’ll be added tomorrow. From here, it’s either doing major overhauls to the code structure to cut down on a very large number of lines (unlikely), adding the leaderboard leaderboard (more likely but still difficult) and beginning working on data trends and visualization (ehhhh). The changes to make next are all pretty involved so I dunno where I wanna take things next, but nonetheless I’m excited to go in those directions.
So, here’s a link to the discord server, pop on by if you’re interested in the project!
Remember to upvote automod-chan, and as always: What are you Reading?

2020.10.03 19:30 Veritas__Aequitas Hard truths: Knight of Malta Frank Fahrenkopf and Roman Catholic priest John L. Jenkins control the Presidential Debates - American ideology is a failure and is literally Jesuitism

The Knights of Malta/Sovereign Military Order of Malta is a crusading Order dating back to the year 1099. They are considered a sovereign entity under international law and hold observer status at the United Nations. There is no other organization on earth which is considered sovereign while lacking actual territory and nationhood. The SMOM is an extremely powerful Vatican knighthood working to enforce the temporal/political power of the Holy See, now controlled by the Jesuit Order (also a military Order) since 1814.
The Jesuits have used their university system in America to train the Catholic laity who enter into government and politics. The foremost of these universities is Georgetown University near Washington D.C. There, the Jesuits have created entire programs dedicated to pushing the democratic form of government modeled on America. This is because around the 1950s, the American democracy was determined to be the best vehicle by which the Jesuits can take and maintain control of nations. The most prominent Jesuit who was responsible for the adoption of this course of action was John Courtney Murray who worked with the CIA (also Catholic controlled) to spread Americanism.
The technical details are as follows: Jesuit Robert Bellermine's indirect theory of papal power was revived under Pius XI in the 1930s for the purpose of infiltrating states using the Catholic Action movement comprised of the laity, especially in the intellectual sphere. The Catholic Action model of gaining political hegemony was promoted by powerful American Jesuit (CIA) John Courtney Murray who revised Bellermine's theory of indirect power; Bellermine having pushed the doctrines of equality taken up specifically by Thomas Jefferson. Murray was a leading advisor at the Vatican II conference which produced the document "Lumen gentium" calling on world action from the laity reflecting the earlier Catholic Action model. American democracy is the easiest politcal system for the church to control through this model, hence Murray's assistance to the CIA in spreading it. One may wish to view my recent video Commission on Presidential Debates: Catholic-Imposed Limitations in American Political Discourse which delves into this subject.
Now, The Commission on Presidential debates, founded and chaired by Jesuit Georgetown professor and Knight of Malta Frank Fahrenkopf is strictly governed so as to bar candidates outside of the two major politcal parties which uphold the standard American ideology the Jesuits seek to maintain and enforce throughout the world. Given the previous background on the Jesuits and American democracy, it is no surprise that Fahrenkopf was also a founder of the National Endowment for Democracy which has the goal of promoting democracy abroad.
The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) is a nonprofit corporation established in 1987 under the joint sponsorship of the Democratic and Republican political parties in the United States.[1][3] The CPD sponsors and produces debates for U.S. presidential and vice-presidential candidates and undertakes research and educational activities relating to the debates. It has run all of the presidential debates held since 1988. The commission's debates are sponsored by private contributions from foundations and corporations[4] as well as fees from hosting institutions.[5]
The commission's exclusion of third-party candidates from the debates has been the subject of controversy and legal challenges.

2020.10.03 18:07 Veritas__Aequitas Hard truths: Knight of Malta Frank Fahrenkopf and Roman Catholic priest John L.

2020.10.02 12:40 KieselguhrKid13 Gravity's Rainbow Reading Group Sections 66-69 Week 20

Alright, home stretch foax. This section's a beast. Hang in there and keep sharing your insights! All together now...
Section 66
"You will want cause and effect. All right." (663) What an opening - it's almost confrontational, mocking our need for clear narrative structure and causality.
We discover that Thanatz was tossed overboard in the same storm that sent Slothrop off the Anubis and off on his adventure with Frau Gnahb. Thanatz is rescued by someone even stranger - an unnamed Polish undertaker (think on the etymology of that word) who happens to be a lightening aficionado. I'll stop here and comment that, earlier, when Slothrop fell into the water before and after getting on the Anubis, it brought to mind the river Styx in Hades - another underworld. It washes clean one's identity and memory. Makes you forget who you are. And there's traditionally a ferryman, Charon, to help people cross it. Can't help but think that's who saved Thanatz here, carrying him from the land of the dead to the land of the unliving, the preterite detritus of WWII.
(An aside: Speaking of Styx, has anyone listened to Mr. Roboto recently? That song has some Gravity's Rainbow vibes.)
Our undertaker here is inspired by the Franklin myth and is trying to get struck by lightening in order to experience that "singular point, [that] discontinuity in the curve of life" (664) passing from a rate of change of positive infinity to one of negative infinity in the blink of an eye. Seems there's something of a conspiracy among those who have been through this point of infinite inflection - a secret society of lightening heads who are aware not of another reality but of a new layer of reality laid on top of our own. Insight into a higher level of reality, of hidden systems.
We get an example of the content of the lightning-aficionado's publication A Nickel Saved and it's supposedly full of coded messages for Those Who Know, each part being a veiled reference to other topics that contain the true meaning, requiring a true paranoid's ability to see (make?) connections. For example, there are repeated mentions of April, Easter, and Spring - the season of rebirth. To an Amperage Contest and lightbulbs failing - Byron the Bulb's attempts to strike back, perchance? A screen-door salesman - what is a screen door except a permeable interface?
But our undertaker isn't interested in secret knowledge - he just wants to be a better businessman - and he deposits Thanatz on the shore and rows back off into the storm. Here, Thanatz meets a group of 175s - men formerly imprisoned in the Dora camp for being gay - who have formed their own solitary community in this isolated section of northern Germany.
I suspect some of this imagery may initially shock readers - concentration camp victims who want to return to their prison? Who set up their own 175-Stadt to recreate the conditions of their imprisonment? But think about it - just last section, we saw Katje, someone who's been used and abused by those in power, balk at the thought of being truly free because she had become dependent on systems of control. She had integrated those control systems as part of her identity, her sense of self. "She needs the whip," Blicero wrote of her (662). Just like Katje, these men became so conditioned to depend on a system of total control and rigid social hierarchies that they don't know how to function without it. Their 175-Stadt doesn't seem like such a ridiculously dark, inappropriate caricature now, does it? Because isn't that a central point of this book - that everyone has been conditioned to need control, to need Their System, to not know how to function without it? Slothrop was our perfect everyman from within this system, and look at what it took for him to actually be free (and even then, the ideal of America still has a colonial outpost in his head). But in their 175-Stadt, these men at least control their system of control. They built it, they staff every level of it, and it's entirely under their control. An isolated state, separate from the broader System. But is there a ruler in this system, a king? No, simply the figment of Blicero. His name, his specter, looming over everything. A system of control with no real king? We've seen that before.
Not only that, but this micro-society is not based strictly on the SS command from Dora, but what the prisoners inferred about the rocket command structure in the Mittelwerke. So even their "recreation" of their imprisonment is an approximation of a different system. I'd also stop here to comment that, is this imagery really as ridiculous/insane as it first appears? I'd say no, since the queeS&M community absolutely took inspiration from Nazi uniforms as symbols of dominance and control, repurposing it into fetishwear. But then, as in this 175-Stadt, the control is by choice, as is the submission. As we've seen elsewhere in this book (Blicero's Oven-State), turning submission into a fetish can be a form of rebellion, since it subverts Their means of control (fear of pain) and turns it into a source of pleasure. Is it truly control if you're choosing it? Enjoying it? No one said this book asks easy questions of its readers...
Thanatz keeps looking for answers, and gets swept up amidst the vast swarms of preterite Displaced Persons being shifted across the zone. What's concerning is that these supposedly-free, albeit displaced, people, are shuffled without purpose across the Zone, with minimal food, water, or medicine, being "herded into wire enclosure[s]" and shipped around in freight cars, "deloused, poked, palpated, named, numbered, consigned, invoiced, misrouted, detained, ignored" (669). It's almost impossible to miss the painful similarity here to the treatment of Jews and other victims of the Holocaust. Only here the mistreatment isn't out of some pathological hatred, simply a system without a place for so many people, and without the committed resources to actually, effectively help them. The thought is unsettling, since we like to imagine that only Naziesque hatred could prompt such brutal mistreatment, not apathy.
Finally, he's rescued by the Schwarzkommando thanks to his knowledge of Blicero and the firing of Rocket 00000. Here, we learn a bit more about what happened that day. Looking into Blicero's eyes, he saw windmills reflected, though none were in the area. Another four-way mandala, like we saw last week with Slothrop. Thanatz isn't in great mental shape by this point, and he's beginning to equate Gottfried and Bianca both as his children. Why? Because he felt some sense of responsibility to them? Because he failed them? Either way, the Schwarzkommando learn all they need from him about that fateful noon on the Heath, though we do not. The section ends with a simple touch of hands between Enzian and Christian, a moment of connection, of trust.
Section 67
Man, how do I even start summarizing this complete doozy of a section? As Weissenburger writes, "In this episode the narration begins to fragment." (344) Ya don't say... Well, here goes.
We being one serious trip of a section with Slothrop, as part of a rather unimpressive team of quasi-superheros (the "Floundering Four") fighting against evil ol' Broderick Slothrop amidst the factory-state (a Metropolis-like iteration of the Rocket-State with movable buildings?!). Broderick, in the role of comic book supervillain, keeps trying to off Slothrop, but our hero has a lucky streak just wide enough to keep him alive.
Right off the bat, we see another image of the chessboard - the whole factory-state is laid out in a grid, and it's all A Game of Chess, as der Springer already informed us, and our movements are limited. Crucially, "Your objective is not the King - there is no King - but momentary targets such as the Radiant Hour." (674) How can you win at chess when there's no King? How can the land be restored and the cycle renewed if there's no King to die and be replaced?
Slothrop is joined by a truly slipshod lot: Myrtle Miraculous, the only one who seems to have actual powers; Maximilian, a suave Black club manager who can flow with all natural rhythms and thus able to navigate any scenario with ease, and Marcel, a mechanical chess player (an embodiment of the Mechanical Turk, but crucially, one without the hidden human operator. No hidden Grandmaster lurking inside Marcel here - nope, this android's the real deal.
This section includes one of my favorite quotes from the book: "Decisions are never really made - at best they manager to emerge, from a chaos of peeves, whims, hallucinations and all-round assholery." (676) I can think of several times where I've been able to relate to that scenario all too well.
Their chances for success and failure are equal, but these opposing odds don't cancel each other out - instead, the two opposing forces just create a "loud dissonance". The crew undertake some truly hallucinatory adventures through the Racketen-Stadt which I will not attempt to summarize, as that would be an exercise in futility. But we are treated to flashes of Slothrop, "Broderick and Nalline's shadow-child, their unconfessed, their monster son," (677) getting locked in an icebox, piloting a mobile building through the grid-streets of the factory-state like a giant chess piece. One line really jumps out at me, here, that I think is important: "Their struggle is not the only, or even the ultimate one. Indeed, not only are there many other struggles, but there are also spectators, watching, as spectators will do, hundreds of thousands of them." (679) Makes me think of the "glozing neuters," mentioned earlier - of the masses of people who are just trying to live their lives, neither part of any conspiracy nor actively aware of being subject to one. Must be nice. At the same time, the idea of other, simultaneous struggles, is noteworthy - it brings to mind the concept of intersectionality, and how people realizing their unique, individual struggles share common sources, and common traits, which they can work together to fight.
We end this sub-section in an arena for these exact masses, where our heroes are on a stakeout, with Slothrop in full drag waiting in the Transvestites' Toilet for a message.
You may be wondering about the multiple instances of cross-dressing, in various iterations, throughout the book. Slothrop in drag and Blicero in a wig and merkin come to mind. One aspect, I'd say, is that it reflects a blending of two (as far as society is generally concerned) binary opposites. A crossing-over, a transgression against the status quo and an option other than 1 or 0.
Eliot, in his Notes on The Waste Land, wrote,
"Tiresias, although a mere spectator and not indeed a 'character', is yet the most important personage in the poem, uniting all the rest. Just as the one-eyed merchant, seller of currants, melts into the Phoenician Sailor, and the latter is not wholly distinct from Ferdinand Prince of Naples, so all the women are one woman, and the two sexes meet in Tiresias. What Tiresias sees, in fact, is the substance of the poem." (Emphasis mine).
Cue Crutchfield the Westwardman's world of only one of everything. Likewise, the women in Gravity's Rainbow often blend together, share traits or imagery. So do the men. The joining of the two sexes in Blicero, as well as Slothrop here at the end, is significant.
The Low-Frequency Listeners
The introduction here of the character of Rohr, the Keeper of the Antenna, specifically as a Jehovah's witness, was odd. It's such a specific subsect of Christianity. Then we see - he heard a man on the radio, dying, asking for a priest. Rohr says, "Should I have got on and told him about priests? Would he've found any comfort in that?" (682). In what? I had to look it up, but when I did, it clicked - Jehovah's witnesses apparently do not have priests, because they are all ordained. There is no separate priest caste in their church, and thus no Preterite/Elect division. In this section, we also learn that the Nuremberg trials are getting underway.
Mom Slothrop's Letter to Ambassador Kennedy
You start to feel even more sorry for Slothrop as you realize just how terrible his parents apparently were. His mom cares enough to at least write another letter asking Ambassador Kennedy as to what the hell happened to their son, but her letter quickly devolves into drunken ramblings complaining about striking workers and managing to make an innuendo about Jack Kennedy while also dismissing her love of her sons. Oof. Maybe Otto was right with his conspiracy of mothers...
On the Phrase "Ass-Backwards"
An entertaining linguistic debate between Säure and Slothrop on American idioms, specifically ones involving a reversal, as in the case of "ass-backwards". The section then slips into a story of Säure, in his youth, breaking into the home of a young woman, Minnie, who is unable to hear or pronounce umlauted letters, and thus manages to shout the word "helicopter" rather than "cute robber" well before the vehicle was ever invented. Her cry is heard by none other than a young aerodynamics student. The word is taken as a prophesy and a warning of the helicopter's symbol of the police state, with armed officers hanging out the sides, aiming down at their targets.
My Doper's Cadenza
It begins with a serenade from Bodine, and then an exploration of the tenement building "Der Platz" that is home to numerous drug addicts, dope peddlers, and general ne'er-do-wells. They are building an anti-police moat around the building, entirely underground so as to avoid detection, saving breaking through the street for the end.
Shit 'n' Shinola
Another idiomatic diversion for Säure. A beautiful line is tucked away in here - "from outside, the Hall is golden, the white gold precisely of one lily-of-the-valley petal in 4 o'clock sunlight, serene, at the top of an artificially-graded hill." (687) This building, the Schein-Aula (Seeming-Hall), suggests "persistence, through returns of spring, hopes for love, melting snow and ice, academic Sunday tranquillities, smells of grass just crushed or cut or later turning to hay..." (688) Yet again, imagery of spring, of a return to life from the dead season of winter, of the cycle.
We return to the Roseland Ballroom, where shit 'n' Shinola do actually come together. "Shit, now, is the color white folks are afraid of. Shit is the presence of death, not some abstract-arty character with a scythe but the stiff and rotting corpse itself inside the whiteman's warm and private own asshole, which is getting pretty intimate. That's what that white toilet's for.... that white porcelain's the very emblem of Odorless and Official Death." (688) Here Pynchon cuts straight to the point - the almost pathological fear of death and its connections to fears of blackness, excrement. Shit, Death, and the Word. Edwin Treacle hit on this back on p. 276 when he tried to show his colleagues at the White Visitation "that their feelings about blackness were tied to feelings about shit, and feelings about shit to feelings about putrefaction and death." The cycle of life is too organic, too messy. Better to replace carbon with silicon, to hide shit with porcelain, to treat people with dark skin as "other" or sub-human to avoid acknowledging that their non-European, communal ways of life were, in fact, totally natural.
An Incident in the Transvestites' Toilet
Not King Kong, but a small, costumed ape comes up to Slothrop, who's wearing a Fay Wray dress while waiting in the bathroom for a still-unspecified message. We get a Miltonic blank-verse poem (thanks, Weissenburger!) about the movie King Kong, written in the voice of Anne Darrow (Fay Wray's character). It's honestly quite good - I love the line "in your own stone living space" - the internal rhyme there sounds really nice, and I like the riff on living stone / Livingston, both of which have popped up previously. In the poem, Darrow talks about when she was tied up, hung by the natives as an offering to "the night's one Shape to come" (689), echoing both Greta Erdman's scene in Alpdrücken and the Hanged Man card of the Tarot (willing sacrifice, sacrifice that prompts a return, a renewal of the cycle). Darrow says she prayed, "not for Jack," her suave costar, but for her director Carl Denham, "only him, with gun and camera... making the unreal reel / By shooting at it, one way or the other-" (689). Throughout GR, we've seen a film motif, and this really brings it home. The analogy of a gun to a camera, both of which make the unreal real (a camera creates films that interpret real life - the "unreal reel", a gun makes death, which we've blocked away and tried to avoid, real and inescapable). The director is in control of the movie, the actors, the story, of how it works and what is told. Darrow ends by asking Carl to "show me the key light, whisper me a line..." - a key light is used in cinema and photography to not just shed light on the subject, but to do so in a way that provides form and dimension to the subject and the scene. So Darrow is asking for the director to literally give her form and definition, to tell her what to say next.
This ape, though, isn't so Romantic as ol' Kong though, and is much more direct. It hands Slothrop an anarchist's bomb straight out of the comics pages, and takes off. Slothrop freezes and is saved by a helpful transvestite who takes the bomb and flushes it down the toilet. But it explodes anyway, sending geysers of water up out of all the toilets. A Voice comes out of he Loudspeaker informing everyone that it was, in fact, a sodium bomb that explodes upon contact with water. Tellls everyone to get the "dangerous maniac" who threw it. That was supposed to be Slothrop, but he was saved by his indecision and the kindness of a stranger, who is now set upon by the other occupants of the toilet.
A Moment of Fun with Takeshi and Ichizo, the Komical Kamikazes
We now jump to a pair of comically-mismatched Kamikaze pilots stationed on a remote island well away from any conflict. One flies a Zero, the other flies an "Ohka device" which is basically a rocket-bomb with a pilot's seat. They get moonshine from their radarman, Kenosho, who mocks them daily for the lack of opportunities to fly to their deaths and who comes up with haikus that, while in the right format, really miss the heart of what a haiku is supposed to be.
Streets
Back to Slothrop, now, and a catalogue of the streets he's traveled down and what he's seen. We get a meditation on the absurdity of army chaplains, who worked for the Army and "stood up and talked to the men who were going to die about God, death, nothingness, redemption, salvation." (693) And it does seem a bit absurd when you consider that the Army that employs the chaplains is the same entity sending the men off to die. We see a bus driver (perchance our maniac bus driver from earlier?) driving through town in the night, his passengers looking out the windows, their faces "drowned-man green, insomniac, tobacco-starved, scared, not of tomorrow, not yet, but of this pause in their night-passage, of how easy it will be to lose, and how much it will hurt..." (693) Going back to the Waste Land, the phrase "I do not find / The Hanged Man. Fear death by water." is symbolic of a death without return (drowning) contrasted to the sacrifice/return symbolized by The Hanged Man. These poor passengers, it seems, aren't to expect any return.
Slothrop also, at this point, learns of the bombing of Hiroshima from a discarded Army newspaper, the photo of the atomic blast placed in poor taste next to an image of a pin-up girl. The bomb's mushroom cloud is compared to the Cross, to a capital-T Tree. But which tree? Is this a meditation on the deadly, unforgettable knowledge of how to split the atom, or of the tree of life, with the citizens of Hiroshima as a sacrifice made... but to what? I'm honestly not sure. Would love your thoughts.
Listening to the Toilet
As others have noted, this book in many ways is about the drug counterculture and hippie movement of the 60s/early 70s. This is the most overt in this section, in which we learn that listening for the cessation of the flow of water to the toilet in the pipes is a cue that a police raid is imminent - shutting off the water being a way to prevent the flushing of illicit substances. But it takes a special ear to hear the cessation of a subtle, pervasive white noise. What if the sun, in fact, massive furnace that it is, emits a constant, low-level roar that is so incessant we don't even hear it? What if eddies in the current of the Soniferous Aether cause rare spots of true quiet, where the noise is no longer transmitted and anyone in that spot can hear their own heartbeat it's so quiet? Interestingly, there are "quiet rooms" designed to absorb nearly all sound, used for precise sound calibration. I remember reading that most people can't sit in one of those rooms for more than 30 minutes or so because it's literally so quiet that you can hear the blood flowing through your veins, and people have even reported auditory hallucinations as a result. But why this digression? Maybe because we need to be asking what other white noise is out there that we've become completely deaf to? I think Roger and Jessica found a pocket of this quiet, early in the book, where the "noise" of modern society and all its associated obligations was muted by the War.
Witty Repartee
A return to our Komical Kamikazes, and a meditation on the ubiquity of the Hotchkiss machine gun across nations, independent of alliances. We get an image of a false King - an inbred idiot lying naked in a dumpster, attracting the attention of potential revolutionaries. But they can't decide if he's "a diversionary nuisance planted here by the Management, or whether he's real Decadent Aristocracy to be held for real ransom" (698). While the would-be revolutionaries are debating in the alley, sentries with the aforementioned Hotchkiss guns take positions on the rooftops, aiming down...
Heart-to-Heart, Man-to-Man
A dialogue here between Slothrop and ol' Broderick, with dear old dad interrogating his wayward son about a modern electric drug. Slothrop reassures him that he'd never shoot raw electricity - no, they dope themselves with waves. Major pre-Cyberpunk vibes here, with Broderick warning "Suppose someday you just plug in and go away and never come back?" to which Tyrone replies, "What do you think every electrofreak dreams about? .... Maybe there is a Machine to take us away, take us completely, suck us out through the electrodes out of the skull 'n' into the Machine and live there forever.... We can live forever, in a clean, honest, purified Electroworld-" (699). Matrix, anyone? Not to mention the waves of radio, TV, etc. and the simple, episodic, controlled reality they offer. Pleasantville also comes to mind, with all its commentary on the shows of the era.
Some Characteristics of Imipolex G
We learn that Imipolex G is the first erectile plastic, stiffening in response to certain electronic stimuli. The potential of a layer of controlling wires just under the outer layer of Imipolex, making it a second skin - a synthetic interface. Alternately, there's the potential to control it via a projection of "an electronic 'image; analogous to a motion picture." (700)
My gods, I made it through this section...
Section 68
Tchitcherine now, dealing with a spook, Nikolai Ripov, from the Commissariat for Intelligence Activities. His pal Džabajev has run off with "two local derelicts" (700) and is impersonating Frank Sinatra and wooing the ladies of the Zone. We get the line, "While nobles are crying in their nights' chains, the squires sing. The terrible politics of the Grail can never touch them. Song is the magic cape." (701) - Seems another example of folks recognizing the game, the Grail quest, for what it was and checking out - deciding not to play and just enjoy themselves while the Elect lose sleep over the endless searching.
Ripov explains to Tchitcherine how "the basic problem... has always been getting other people to die for you." (701) Religion used to serve as an effective control for that reason - death isn't quite as scary if you think you're going to heaven. But modern society has moved on, and needs more secular sources of control, like a commitment to "History" as if you're part of some great narrative, sacrificing yourself for some imagined end-goal of what society is "supposed" to be.
Seems Tchitcherine was doping on Oneirine theophosphate. Wimpe, his dealer, argues that a man is "only real at the points of decision. The time between doesn't matter." (702) Points man again - the moment of decision, of choice, that splits the future in two. Points of control. Contrast that to:
"Datta: what have we given? / My friend, blood shaking my heart / The awful daring of a moment’s surrender / Which an age of prudence can never retract / By this, and this only, we have existed." (The Waste Land, Part V: What the Thunder Said - emphasis mine).
Both are arguing that it's these key moments, irreversible junctures in our lives that make us real. Not what comes next, not what people say about us, just our moments. Integrate those moments, run them fast enough (say 24 frames per second) and you might even approximate something close to a person...
We learn that Oneirine apparently leads to "the dullest hallucinations known to psychopharmacology" (703) - hauntings of the mundane, the almost-normal.
Tchitcherine's Haunting
Tchitcherine hallucinates that Ripov is interrogating him, and he becomes fixated on the question of whether or not he was supposed to die. Seems like part of him wants to believe in life after death, in some hope for meaning, which goes against the Soviet doctrine and thus isn't exactly endearing him to those above him. Thankfully this is just an Oneirine haunting, except... wait, it's too real - no subtle violations of reality. He tries to escape, but is outnumbered. But no execution for him here - just a reassignment to Central Asia. A cold and operational death.
Section 69
"The dearest nation of all is one that will survive no longer than you and I, a common movement at the mercy of death and time: the ad hoc adventure." - Resolutions of the Gross Suckling Conference (706)
In other words, they seek a nation that does not function independently of its citizens - one that is not some separate identity with a quasi-personhood (much like how corporations are legally "people"). Rather, a nation that is inextricably linked to the people and that will die when they do. No immortality, no denial of the cycle or death.
But poor Roger's still dealing with Jessica, and now with Jeremy, too, who he's at least amicable with. But he's struggling with their acceptance of the System, their embracing of it. Jeremy's all about reassembling the rockets and firing them, asking "What else does one do with a rocket?" (note how disassembling it or at least not using the weapon isn't even an option...).
Jeremy's even so kind as to invite Roger to a fancy dinner with a bunch of corporate bigwigs, including folks from Krupp, ICI, and GE, and hosted by one Stefan Utgarthaloki, whose name should be a giant red-flag that something's amiss with this shindig. Roger picks Seaman Bodine as his date, the two having struck up a rather theatrical friendship, dress in their absurdist best (Bodine in the mother of all zoot suits), and join the party.
We get some insight here into the nature of rebellions, and the danger of them not only fizzling out or failing, but of being co-opted as a tool to "help legitimize Them" (713). Of either dying or "living on as Their pet" - it brings to mind the corporate branding of "rebelliousness" as cool, as "a phase" that it's normal to go through and eventually grow up from. Treating the idealism of youth, the desire to make the world better and to fight against the problems of the system before you become numb to them, as a normal phase of life is such an effective way to neutralize it culturally. How many people have heard the phrase "you get conservative [i.e. more resistant to change] as you get older"? How many of us have seen youth-led movements being dismissed as examples of immaturity, for example? Between that and companies stamping their logo on it (hello, Hot Topic), it's a way to change the cultural narrative around any movement against the status quo to one that's dismissive, just accepting enough to let people burn off their energy and eventually fall into line. Because how else can you continue to live a decent life in a society that refuses to change? You either go build a shack in the woods somewhere, die, or acclimate to the system and just focus on being comfortable yourself, not constantly fighting for change. It's a depressing thought, and I'm sure Pynchon saw a lot of that attitude in the 60s. I have to wonder - do non-industrialized societies have "teenage rebellion" as a normal part of life? Is that a part of human nature, like we tend to think, or is it an explicit reaction to reaching maturity in a system that is anti-human and anti-nature?
Anyway, back to the dinner party - between the depressing, anti-social music (kazoos?!) and the lavish dinner, things seem fine, but there's a plot against the Roger and Bodine. Fortunately a journalist, Constance, tips off Bodine that they might just be the main course of this feast, so Bodine cues Roger to begin the evening show - an absurd gross-out session that they planned in advance with the aid of now-deceased Pudding communicating via medium Carroll Eventyr. The pair recite an increasingly disgusting list of alliterative dishes, triggering "well-bred gagging" and guests to flee, though a few find it all quite entertaining. But it's enough to break up the dinner party and allow our heroes to flee.
Note: If you made it this far, actually read all this, thank you. Bloom warned me this was a longer section, and boy, he wasn't kidding. I think this is longer than some college essays I wrote... Damn fun, though, and I hope you've found my thoughts informative, interesting, useful, or if nothing else, sufficiently diversionary for a spell. I truly look forward to seeing what you other fine foax have to say on these labrynthine sections.
Questions
  1. In the lightning-aficionado's "A Nickel Saved" excerpt, are there any other references or hidden ideas you can find? I have to think there are.
  2. What is the meaning of the windmill reflected in Blicero's eyes? How do you interpret the imagery in this scene in general?
  3. 175-Stadt. Oven-State. Hund-Stadt. Rocket-State. Factory-State. We've seen numerous examples of specialized micro-states across the Zone, experiments in different forms of society. What are your thoughts on these? Are they hints at ways to find alternate societies, or manifestations of humanity's tendency to divide by category and put of fences?
  4. In the "Shit 'n' Shinola" subsection, Pynchon connects Jack Kennedy, Malcolm X, and Tyrone Slothrop. What do you make of this intersection?
  5. In "Streets," the bombing of Hiroshima is presented as being similar to the Cross, "it is also, perhaps, a Tree..." - the capitalized "Tree" here could be the tree of knowledge, the tree of life, the tree from which the Hanged Man dangles, or perhaps something else. What's your interpretation of this imagery?
  6. In Section 69, we see references to the Albatross, famous symbol from The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It's presented that Slothrop is the (now-plucked) albatross, but it's not clear who killed this bird, or who's wearing it around their neck. They? Any ideas?
